Promising More Bang For The Buck - Audi Prices New Q3 At $32,500

Six months after its initial American debut at the Detroit Motor Show, the US pricing and spec for Audi's baby Q3 crossover have just been leaked. With a base price of $32,500 (plus $925 destination), the little Audi will cost more than its GLA and X1 competitors from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, but it seems it will be offering a longer list of standard equipment for the price. The base model is powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI four-pot mated to a six speed automatic and making 200 horsepower.

This is the exact same strategy Audi used for the A3 Sedan to steal sales from the Mercedes-Benz CLA and was helped by Mercedes-Benz's failure to accurately match the supply of CLAs with the market's demand.

If Mercedes-Benz fails to match supply with demand for the GLA and makes a lot of things that are standard on the Q3 as expensive options, the Audi will actually be LESS expensive. Since leather will likely be standard on the Q3 and optional on the GLA, that alone will make up the $1,300 price difference.

This causes an issue for the Tiguan because they are routinely on the lot in the low thirties and will be just a stone's throw from the Q3 at the same dealer given the Porsche/Audi/VW branding.
