NYC Tells Used Car Dealers Unrepaired Recalled Cars Can Not Be Sold

Whoa! What's the matter with the auto industry these days? On one hand there's General Motors and its almost 30 million population of recalled vehicles and now we found out that NYC municipality is cooking up something for used car dealers that sold recalled cars without fixing them first.

New York City's Department of Consumer Affairs is currently investigating approximately 200 used car dealerships for hard evidence that incriminates dealers for selling unsafe vehicles and failing to inform buyers that those cars are involved in recalls.

Risk management has advised us to not put used cars out on the lot without checking the VIN against the recalls. We've started charging $500 for resale verification and buyers are deciding to private sell their cars rather than trade.

They better regulate these rental car companies too, I travel a lot and have noticed workers renting cars on the "do not rent" list when inventory is low and unsuspecting customers are looking for wheels

Lol @MattDarringer...ok, let me be more clear, rental car agencies are literally renting recalled vehicles to customers because they simply cannot repair or replace the vehicles quick enough to keep up with demand...

What about the car companies dragging their feet on providing parts to fix the cars they recalled? Chrysler is notorious for not providing parts. My Jeep was recalled almost a year ago for the gas tank issue and my dealer still has no parts or a process on what to do for cars that came with a factory hitch. My SRX is listed in GM's ignition recalls but no notice yet. How about $500 from them to everyone who wants to sell their impossible to repair vehicle?
