Acura Thinks AWD Is The Key To Increasing Sales - Care To Tell Them The REAL Reason Why They Are Having Problems?
Acura expects its improved, next-generation all-wheel-drive technologies in two upcoming sedans to help make up lost ground from a delayed product launch as the brand chases a full-year U.S. sales increase, Mike Accavitti, the luxury brand's general manager, said.

The brand is seeking to recover from a delayed launch of the Acura TLX.

Through July, Acura sales slipped 2 percent to 90,431 vehicles. That knocked it off pace to beat the 165,436 vehicles it sold in 2013, which marked a 6 percent gain over 2012, amid an overall market up 8 percent.

The TLX would be fine if not for that terrible chrome beak. It still wouldn't look amazing, but at least it wouldn't necessarily be worse than the competition (Infiniti Q50 and so forth).

Acura really needs to accelerate the effort to regain its sporty image. Integra needs to make a comeback. NSX needs to stop catching fire. Right now, and for a while, the most exciting car Honda offers is not an Acura but rather the V6 Accord Coupe. Which should EMBARRASS Acura.

There is no beak on this car...never was...Honda haters just picked that out as something to bitch and moan about and have not shut THEIR beaks for the last 7 years...holy crap...STFU about the beak already.

Looking right at it and see the "beak".

Seriously, enough about the flippin' beak already. It's here and it's staying, just like BMW's kidneys, Mercedes' modified peace sign, Audi's Olympic rings, and Lexus' Predator mug.

The reality is that it's not the beak, in itself, that was responsible for Acura's sedan lineup to suffer in sales. The MDX and RDX both have the beak and are leading their competitors, so what say you to that?

The nose on your face qualifies more as a beak than this piece of silver plastic on the grille of the Acura...yet, you call it a nose.

I don't care what YOU choose to call the ghastly design that is the radiator grille on current- and previous-gen Acuras, but the term "beak" has been used for a few years now and is well understood by most. If you don't like it, no-one cares. Get over it.

Acura is to Honda as Mercury was to Ford. THAT is the real issue. The RLX being a fancy overpriced Accord is a disgrace.

@Preview The RLX is literally an Accord with a slightly longer wheelbase in much the same way an Avalon is a Camry with a different wheelbase.

Yet it drives like crap. Totally different platform that is still FWD or AWD. Means nothing. Why can't you guys see this? Acura is a JOKE.

While Acura might genuinely have a good product in many regards. No one will buy a car that is butt ugly.

Fire the entire design team and start over.

The Paceman isn't that far off from an Evoque, so what gives? Why such a hater? Guessing you are jealous of MINIs success, and besides, the Paceman is a niche car, just not your niche.

There have been several positive reviews regarding the car's driving dynamic as well as aesthetics. To me, it doesn't look great, but it's not terrible either.
It's a solid car for the price range.

009, you should proof read your posts, your grammar is butt ugly.

PROPORTION… Audi reengineered the position of it's engine over the front wheels to get it's cars to appear more in proportion with Rear wheel drive medium to large sized BMWs, Mercedes and Lexus and any other real luxury players.

Not bad looking, but very conservative. Maybe Acura needs to try a new front grille/air dam. I do not think AWD is the answer. Is the TLX aiming for luxury or performance?

AWD is the answer for the larger-engined and heavier models. It completely changed the dynamics of the RLX and it sounds like it makes the V-6 TLX much more cohesive due to the extra weight of the engine over the 4-cylinder.

Ugly, boring cars, sorirously what is up with the beak? Try coping Hyundai: make sexier Toyotas, not uglier Toyotas…

Agent009 is at it again with the anti-Acura bashing. Respected auto journalists and sites like Edmunds, Leftlanenews, automobile mag, and others all have very positive things to say about the TLX. Perhaps Agent 009 wanted to draw some more hits to his articles which is why he continues to post such garbage.

AWD will prove to be a smart move. That model, along with the feature packed base 4 cylinder with dual clutch 8 speed, is getting great reviews. I don't care for Acura's grille, but it wouldn't keep me from buying the car. Car and Driver made a couple of comparisons to the 3 series.

Overpriced Honda. Styling-wise, it's just boring and awkward, and has a "good-heart" personality with one large buck-tooth.

If you take your thumb and place it over the grill on the picture above, the rest of the car is actually very stylish. Next, Acura needs to go forced induction like ALL the German cars and people will start to relook at Acura again. Their drivetrain is the saving grace on this car.

The average American buyer knows little about driving dynamics. Most buy on looks. In the last few years even Hyundai has figured this out and actually sells attractive cars compared to the other cars in the segment. Make them prettier and they will sell regardless of how they drive. Even the best driving car in any segment won't sell if the target buyer thinks it's ugly.

That is EXACTLY right @40flash!!! i agree 10000%... most people know NOTHING about a car except what they see (and maybe it drives fast)... they all drive the same to them....most wealthy women know nothing about the dynamics of a BMW or MB they want them for the look or the status... they may know they are fast but nothing else about the performance

How about let's get it up over 300 HP and lbs of torque. For an engine that size and make it competitive for the segment. Then we can talk. Oh and kill the beak!

Turbos are a compromise(durability, lag, complexity, reliability)and I can't imagine 200K out of one without issues--especially anything from Europe. While TLX is not quite a BMW or Audi, it is a much better value. New trends in styling are a risk. Case in point, Hyundai is toning down the Sonata in order to lure a broader audience.

Well then they just make them Hondas. Luxury cars are about better tech and more daring designs. What you're describing should be a Honda which is exactly why Acura is failing and has become a big joke. This sensible shoes approach to everything is lame and it is holding them back big time.

I too think this is an attractive car. If you go to Acura.com, there are even more photos and you can see all the color choices. It has a presence...especially with the larger tires.

Acura is nothing more than a fancy Honda and most people know that. There are so many other more appealing choices out there. Acura is fools luxury. Reliability? Yes they're reliable, but not reliable enough to make up for their insipid designs and piss poor driving qualities. Who in their right mind would pay 60K+ for a RLX? It drove like an Accord when I wasted my time driving it out of curiosity. Acura's are just like Lincolns, nice cars but nothing compelling. Mercedes, BMW, Audi even Lexus have more performance, better interiors, better designs (except Lexus), and just make better presentation. Acura is just a joke and sales are showing that the public doesn't care to shop them anymore, beyond the MDX.

Subaru, Isuzu and Suzuki did not dare (good call!)

Mazda killed it right on time...Amati any one?

Honda created Acura and look at the mess

Nissan did Infiniti which is only surviving

Toyota has Lexus and although things are starting to look OK, I'm sure Mr. Toyoda and family would not embark themselves into it if they had the chance again.
