Consumer Reports Says Lexus NX Will Sell Well To Those Willing To Overlook The Flaws
The new Lexus NX is the most important car since this Japanese automaker put the first spindle grille on a GS sedan. It not only competes with some of the most popular German SUV models of the moment, but it does so using attributes that are atypical for the Lexus brand.

You see, the NX's bigger brother, the RX is as softly sprung as a canal boat. It's designed to waft along with little to no engine noise making its way into the cabin. But these attributes mainly appeal to old customers. There's nothing wrong with that, since they older folks have a lot more money to spend, but now Lexus wants to be in with the hip crowd, something we caught a glimpse of when we drove the IS.

I am young and this design is just lost on me... It just doesn't work. It says LOOK AT ME, I am trying really really really really really hard to be cool but FAILING.

I guess I'm not hip because I would hide in shame behind the wheel of this

I don't find it attractive but it will sell because it is a Lexus and it might just be ugly enough to be considered inspired by some.

I think the Lincoln MKZ is Aztek ugly with so much it just WRONG, but there are those who find what my eye see as ugly as inspired.

The same may be true with the NX.

It will sell a ton because it is a Lexus - those buyers don't care what it looks like or what it drives like -- look at all the other Lexus cars and how well they sell...

HoustonMidtown is spot on. The Lexus NX will sell like hotcakes.

Why? Lexus owners are Toyota customers who wanted something "sporty" with nicer leather and a better stereo than what they have been driving, so they went to the bland dealership with the L instead of the bland dealership with the T.

What a silly comment 'Lexus owners are Toyota customers..." from RobertPaulson. So Porsche customers come from VW, Lambo owners come from Audi and so on. Lexus customers come from various owners and i would those would want something different and don't want to look the same. I will point again cars are like people, no one likes them all but to offer statements based on ignorance or plain dislike like for a brand for no though out reason is just silly.

I haven't seen one yet but I am guessing it's not as crazy in real life. The IS turned out to be not nearly as crazy looking as it appeared at first. Up close there are a few crazy elements but at a normal distance it's not as grotesque. Anyone have a first hand account on the road yet?

Dumbpeople - your comment actually gives new meaning to the word "silly". Toyota to Lexus customers actually is quite logical. Had you stated VW to Audi customers, that would have been logical too - but VW to Porsche - dumb and silly.

Since no vehicle is perfect...isn't that what we all do? That is pretty much how we look at life in general since there is no perfection...we accept those things for which we are willing to overlook the flaws...it's not rocket science.

Truth is...we don't have any real data to backup any of our "biased" opinions concerning what the average Lexus NX consumer will look like. All we know is Lexus is adding a SUV/CUV which seems to be well-overdue or well-behind what other luxury makes have been doing so far.

The NX was needed maybe 2-3 years ago, now it's a bit comical b/c the brand characteristics have changed quite a bit in recent years - where the Lexus exterior is less luxury & more sport. And Toyota/Lexus has finally realized how much profit they're leaving on the street by not having offering something like that before. I'm sure they see Porsche & BMW raking in a lot of profit for vehicles most of us didn't ever think those brands would even consider offering & now Lexus wants "in" on the action too.

Initially, I would say that the NX consumer will also be interested in the SRX, RX, Q5, X3, Macon, JX, etc. & many of those consumers will asking themselves if they should ditch their current (brand X) for a new Lexus. We can be sure Lexus will pack everything you can find in the RX, in the NX as well. Since the exterior is so "polarizing", the interior & fuel ratings & warranty will probably do more to sell the NX than anything else.

Definitely won't get mistaken for something else but design too different for me. Will sell well because Lexus wants people with money, not those sitting on the sidelines complaining.

When does the Hyundai/KIA version launch? Next week?
