Audi And Mercedes-Benz Focus On Bang For Buck In Crossover Market - Who Will Lure The Most Affluent Buyers?

With SUV sales taking off again, a move to luxury and the popularity of smaller vehicles, the new small crossovers from Audi and Mercedes-Benz would seem like naturals.

And, as it turns out, both are being priced to lure young buyers. In quick succession, two of the strongest entries have just priced at levels that could make the luxury experience more affordable. But given that the two brands are going head-to-head over similar vehicles, one would seem to have a pricing advantage:

•Audi Q3 will start at $32,500.

•Mercedes-Benz GLA250 will start at $31,300.

Both of these are going to sell like hotcakes. The Audi has a better interior by a nose, but the Mercedes exterior is more interesting. Looks for both of these to post big numbers for their respective brands. Mercedes will have increased supply of the CLA now, the new GLA and C-Class. Going to be a busy Q4 for Mercedes in the U.S. and worldwide. BMW's X1 is the one that better look out.

Yes the Merc definitley has the edge exterior wise, and the Q3 is a decent package, however its more of the same and unfortunately did not have the benefit of Audi's "New upcoming bold design language".

In order for Audi to ever hold similar badge appeal to Mercedes or even BMW, they definitely need to step up their high end game quick. After launching a slew of entry level models, Audi is extremely vulnerable at the high end of the market which is where luxury marques build their badge appeal and convince buyers of a premium price tag.

The Q7 is great, but if i was Audi, id speed up the launch of the A8 and add a new high end coupe/roadster

When standard equipment is considered, although the Audi Q3 may have the higher price tag, it will come with more features than the GLA. Buyers will pay more for a Mercedes-Benz GLA with the same equipment as an Audi Q3.

We shouldn't forget Audi also has a new Q7 right around the corner and the next-generation A4 will be debuting in 2015.

A busy year for Mercedes-Benz for sure, but Audi isn't exactly resting either and is preparing its own onslaught of models for 2015.

No one said Audi was resting, but for the rest of THIS year they don't have much new for the U.S. beyond the Q3, that was my point.

Q3 Vail? Why does it sounds like "Fail"?

Pretty nice . Prefer the power of the X1. Good to see both jump into the market
