Infiniti Considering A 700HP Mercedes-Benz Based Sedan To Topple Panamera

Aside from the 2014 Infiniti Q50 and an across-the-board name change for all models, there has been little news in the way of production vehicles for Infiniti despite the numerous stunning concept vehicles the automaker has released in recent years. Things are still relatively quiet for the 2015 model year, but Automotive News indicates that the luxury brand’s lineup is going to heat up in 2016 and beyond.

For starters, there is talk of a new four-door coupe model – possibly called the Q80 or Q90 – that is expected to ride on a rear-drive Mercedes-Benz platform and compete primarily with the Porsche Panamera. This model could come equipped with a turbo V-6 producing as much as 700 hp.

Lets see, Mercedes is seriously chopping operating cost but signing on clients like Nissan and Aston Martin.

And as much as I appreciate Infiniti's passion, they need to reestablish their current line-up first with legit rivals for the 3,C,5,E,7...and it will take a while for them to reach the S Class.

They should at least develop more worthy rivals to Lexus.

Maybe a new set of name changes will do that.

Car4Life: Almost right. But Japanese are quick learners, I bet the alliance with MB will push them a lot against all other luxury Japanese companies.

Why not just go to 800 HP and top playing around. Gramps needs at least 800 poinies to get to the VA hospital on time.

You're thinking too small. Where's your ambition?? I say 950hp or bust. Also it should catch fire on the Nurburgring at least twice because once is barely even par for the course now.

Well, BMW and Merc both don't really seem to be thinking right with all those things.

BMW is helping Toyota make their new Supra. Well, this means Toyota brand's Camry and such will eventually rival Audi S6, etc in the future. Thank you, BMW! I bet the next gen Camry will be even better than Audi S6 & S7.

And thanks to Mercedes, now Infiniti is going to make the best sports sedans, it will even beat out Panamera eventually. Thank you, Mercedes!

It seems like Toyota and Nissan will soon become the best luxury car makers in the world, with their unrivaled reliability + great tech from BMW and Merc.

In the future, if you expect quality and "real" luxury, you will look for Lexus or Infiniti. But if you want to be a poser, you will come home with the new 1 series, A3 or CLA.

I bet xjug must be crying so hard right now lol!!

Wasn't this an old rumor, the latest is that the Q50 Eau Rouge is not a done deal yet.

Consider me this, consider me that. If I had a penny for every time Infiniti considered a car . . .

Now this could be interesting...but i doubt it. Nissan gots no heart for the big cars. Try offering a V8 (or turbo 6) & AWD in the Maxima, then everybody will take them seriously again.

But if Nissan can do what Chrysler did (at the revival of the 300 model), it'll be money well spent.
