Obama Administration Allowed Delphi Claim British Status To Avoid Taxes
President Barack Obama says U.S. corporations that adopt foreign addresses to avoid taxes are unpatriotic. His own administration helped one $20 billion American company do just that.

As part of the bailout of the auto industry in 2009, Obama's Treasury Department authorized spending $1.7 billion of government funds to get a bankrupt Michigan parts-maker back on its feet -- as a British company.

While executives continue to run Delphi Automotive from a Detroit suburb, the paper headquarters in England potentially reduces the company's U.S. tax bill by as much as $110 million a year.

I'm not an Obama-basher, I even voted for him at the behest of my wife, but the level of corruption in Obama's administration is just astounding.

There is no other reason than politics and money for Obama's federal government to have approved and facilitated this filthy bailout.

Obama seems to trying to grenade the economy. Allowing corporations to wiggle out of paying taxes is reprehensible. People who voted for Obama in 2012 knowing that in three years he DOUBLED the all-time debt built up over more than two centuries make me question their capacity for logical thought.

In 2016 I'm voting for Putin.

BOOOOOOOO, get over yourselves already, yes Obama saved Delphi, and in doing so saved thousand of jobs and families as well.

Jesus, sure Delphi turned out to make a shady movie for the interest of their own company, but I honestly don' know many companies these days who actually care more about the American public than their company

Look at the Bank of America and their 17 billion dollar suit, the Obama Administration got them to make after them and other big banks torpedoed our economy.

Check out Apple building and investing billions in their chinese plants/suppliers instead of investing in a plant right here in America, the country that made Apple Apple.

And to the ignorant Putin fans/followers, I honestly hope you take a one way trip to Russia and follow the man who did not give a crap about the innocent lives lost that were shot down out of the sky a month ago, or the piss poor quality of life Russians live. Enjoy

The Obama Administration, like everyone before and after him, is far from perfect, but I commend him for taking action and supporting an industry, every last one of us on here live for a love, the Auto industry.

Just my 2 cents

Good grief. Here we go. Another tired soul who thinks Obama "saved the auto industry".

Um, Obama did not save the auto industry. He (and George W. Bush) **bailed out GM**.

Get it?

GM and its suppliers and subsidiaries is just a fraction of the U.S. auto industry. There are other auto manufactures which are better managed (e.g. Ford) and are more innovative (e.g. Tesla). Hence, the auto industry would have carried on WITHOUT A DEFUNCT, POORLY-RUN COMPANY LIKE GM.

In addition, many of our country's "imported" vehicles are now made right here in the USA, in states such as South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama.

More and more U.S. companies are becoming European companies for this kind of reason.

And where is America going with this? Well, eventually most likely the U.S. will have no American company left, and you will see a bunch of American elites, pretending to be like the super mighty European elites or some form of royal families of Europe. Because after all, what is it that the rich Americans worship? The European citizenship, the European accents (Especially the English accent) and the European luxury brands.

It is truly sad, as the U.S. keeps going down economically and the Americans no longer really care about their own country like this.

People care, it's just that a lot of people do not know about "inversion" because of the rampant decay of our American journalism at the hands of corporate greed and the shift from quality reporting to ratings.

The problem is, even if they did report, how many Americans will truly care and do something about it?

If Fox News had a car site, this would be it. While we're in the "blame-Obama-for-everything" mode, lets pin faulty ignition switches on him too!

Don't forget Chrysler which we gave, to Fiat who bought out the UAW and is now merging Fiat and Chrysler into FCA and putting the tax headquarters in the Netherlands so they pay less taxes to the USA and Italy. Oh yeah, the most profitable part of FCA? USA based Chrysler.

I have a feeling no matter who the president is, the momentum of profit over all is too hard to combat and the US/Capitalism is just doomed. No one has the balls our clout to turn this pig around and head us back in the direction we once had, prosperity for all and protecting the weak and misfortuned.

That was beautiful, but I'm confused about the "prosperity for all" part.

Was that before or after the civil rights movement?

yes, good point, we like to claim we are for equality but in reality, many are bitter and racist against other groups for their success or lack of success

welcome! I majored in Poli Sci and follow politics fairly closely, even thought at one point I would enter the field, but fear the immense momentum of cash in politics
