Acura Says New TLX Is First Step In Making Brand Relevant Again - But Is This The Best First Step?
Let’s face it: Acura has a bit of an image problem. Gone are the days of the Legend and the Integra. Today there are models like the ILX, RDX, and MDX. They’re not bad cars; they’re just bland. Acura is fully aware it needs to rebuild its reputation not only in terms of luxury, but also with exciting vehicles. The all-new TLX is meant to kick off that campaign. The TLX will effectively replace both the TL and TSX as the brand’s mid-size premium sports sedan.

Unfortunately you were too late Acura and a new kid is already eating the TLX's lunch...

Two Words- Hyundai Genesis

The Genesis and TLX aren't direct competitors. There is almost a $10k difference in base price not to mention size differences.

This is a very nice car for the money. If they keep it under $30K it will most definitely make ACURA relevant again.

The TLX is a terrible misfire. Gone is the ugly styling of the TL, but it is replaced with styling that looks like what Hyundai would have done with the Sonata two generations ago. The side view is boring beyond belief. The tail is distinctive in no way. The face is HIDEOUS. They need to lose the beak. Acura's headlight design looks blingy and tacky.

Give me a break Matt. You are constantly bashing Acura. Let's see how the sales of the TLX do over the next few months.

The TLX will be a step in the direction of Acura's relevance. The base 4 cylinder is the one to have. And buyers in this segment will be fine with it's understated styling. I predict success.

Yes with gobs of money on the hood...

LOL, under $30K...even the lowest price base model starts out at $32k...and the top model is $45k. Even the fully loaded Honda Accord is over $35k...I am guessing some people here have not been car shopping in about 5 years.

Let me see, per ACURA site it starts at $30,995 (most of the sales will be 4 cylinders) and like Matt stated "gobs of money on the hood". I think you can get one for around $27K, give it 6 months.

Subaru, Isuzu and Suzuki did not dare (good call!)

Mazda killed it right on time...Amati any one?

Honda created Acura and look at the mess

Nissan did Infiniti which is only surviving

Toyota has Lexus and although things are starting to look OK, I'm sure Mr. Toyoda and family would not embark themselves into it if they had the chance again.

Most reviews of the new TLX have been highly positive (including some comparisons with the 3-series), which again makes me question why Agent009 is so determined to bash the TLX on a recurring basis.

I think Acura is aiming for people who want a sensible daily driver that can be a bit of fun too.

The TLX is getting many positive reviews, with the 4-cylinder variant the model of choice as a driver's car. The 6-cylinder AWD model is the luxury choice.

A much better step than the RLX, Acura is so strong with the utilities so it just needs to channel that to its sedans.

Agreed, chewy. I don't understand why Acura didn't bake the same ride characteristics into the RLX that seem to be very positive with the TLX. The FWD RLX is noted for being floaty while the Acura is pretty rock solid (see autoblog review).

If you remove the MDX, there isn't a lot of justification for this entire brand. The designs always look like something from a Mothra movie. The Honda people should do what the Koreans did and steal someone away from BMW

This 2015 TLX model should have been the next version after the 2004-2008 model year. Not that BLOATED, BIG ASS END car they drew up from 2009-2014 years. They could have progressed from here to the next version.

Acura needs to knock off the Hyundai Elantra and smack an Acura sticker on it. The TLX looks like an airport rental car....no character or appeal.
