Volkswagen Recalls 151,000 Tiguans For Low Fuel Pressure

Volkswagen AG said Saturday it is recalling 151,000 Tiguan SUVs in the United States for stalling problems.

In a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, VW said it is calling back the 2009-2014 models because "gas bubbles may form in the fuel system when winterized fuel with high vapor pressures is used in warmer areas or months with higher ambient temperatures ... deposits may collect and degrade the electrical current flow inside the in- tank fuel pump leading to reduced fuel pump performance and pressure."

VW said the "fuel pump may not be able to overcome the vapor pressure under low loads and can potentially result in a vehicle stall directly after engine start, increasing the risk of a crash."

Jettas, Golfs, and Passats have the same issue--though not as pronounced--and are being fixed quietly. Sales people get annoyed when a Tiguan stalls and the customer instantly wants out.

Cue the comment: "I have a Tiguan and I've never had any problems with it."

Cue the comment: "I have a Tiguan and I've never had any problems with it, so instead of trading it for a new one I gave it to my son and my wife and I have matching Tiguans with no problems."

Cue the comment: "I have a Tiguan and it's Tiguanlicious!"

You do realize manufacturers pay people to be on sites like this making "pro-brand" comments, right?

Should I start stating my problems with my LS 460? I am not pro-anything, I but what I like and what I can afford. I just state facts that I have experienced. Don't you base most of your purchases on experiences or do you make them based Consumer Reports?

I base my purchases on direct experience with the brands and the candid reviews of the men who work on them.

My point about "cue the comment" is that the glowing testimonials here from satisfied VW owners are in sharp contrast to the service bays full of VW with a myriad of issues.

I've said enough times: VW does simply not care anymore. At least not in the U.S.
Cars continue to be break at alarming rates and there's no sign of a worthy replacement for their core products Jetta, Passat and Tiguan.
Subaru and Kia sell now more cars than VW and Mazda is closing that gap, too!
And all they do is come out with a 30y Jetta commemorative edition that looks like a taxi from Brazil!

Mattdarringer- you are constantly crapping on VW, perhaps because you work for a competing brand

Compared to some recent recalls this one is on the much less scary end.
