Time To Turn In Your Man Card? Porsche Specifically Targeting Female Buyers With New Macan

Mitja Borkert was 15 years old before he saw a Porsche. In the 1980s, his East German hometown of Herzberg was full of Trabants and Wartburgs, which were not fast or well-built and did nothing to raise the pulse of a teenage boy. In 1989 the Wall came down and the parents of a friend of Borkert’s bought a 911. “He came and picked me up, and I was hooked immediately,” he remembers. “The acceleration, the sound. It really kicked me.”

It’s not an exaggeration to say that ride—and that swift little waterbug of a car—set the trajectory of Borkert’s life. Just eight years later, in 1997, he had an internship at Porsche and a year after that a job at the company’s design center in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Porsche along with every other automaker looking to increase market share and revenue.

With a surge in Female's education level, income, and spending power, you'd be a fool not to have atleast several models targeting this group.

and lets face it, as awesome as the Macan is, to most, its simply a cute ute with athletic capabilities

So, I guess the turbo is for the "power bottoms?"

Only misogynists have a 'man card'.

Clearly someone is married to a feminist who doesn't shave her legs...

Nope...I'm gay, so wrong again. People who require a 'man card' need constant validation of their masculinity...quick, Matt, check the expiration date on your 'man card'. Maybe you can get Putin to validate it for you...I can see the 2 of you now riding off together, shirtless, on his new billion dollar estate on the Black Sea.

leej,
Yes, the headline is a bit over-the-top. But not nearly as over-the-top and offensive as the label of "misogynist" you're throwing at anyone who doesn't abide by your own extremely narrow and unusual interpretations of male behavior. People come to this site to read about cars, not your personal political correctness crusade. It's a headline. Get over it.

Female buyers go for Mazda's, but I don't think anybody has to turn in their man card for driving one of those. So what if they look girly, the driving dynamics are fantastic. If somebody wants a Macan, it is their money, their choice, I am not going to judge them.

Although the article doesn't reveal anything new about the design, assembly/mfg, delivery process of the modern car mfrs, I still get a big kick out of the story when I read them.

Nonsense. Many people factor in more than just features and driving attributes when choosing a car. It's also about projecting an image to the outside world—whether that image is meant to reinforce affluence, youth, refinement, sophistication, femininity or yes, even masculinity. It's human nature and not a "problem", something to "worry about" or, as a previous commenter alluded to, an indication of misogynistic tendencies.

Porsche should stick to building sports cars and leave the SUV's to toyota.....

The only challenge is that they wouldn't be able to afford to make sports cars if they weren't selling cute ute's...

BTW, I saw a few in town last weekend and it's nice. I'd replace my Dodge 'home depot runner' if I can stuff 8' lumber in the back. Something to check.

MBCLS07 - I did not call anyone a misogynist. I also never said anything about one being misogynistic for not selecting this vehicle as you eluded to in your other post. My reference was to the silly 'man card' concept only. So, please calm down my friend. I do agree this is an automotive site...unfortunately, some of the articles do tend to stray. I have no personal political correctness crusade...in fact, I am far from being politically correct. I calls 'em as I sees 'em.
