GM (Basically American) Logic:

1. Build millions of junk cars.
2. Recall them, because the government said so.
3. Lose tons of money
4. Now price their SUV even higher, to recover from loss

It's like, GM does not know how to learn from their mistakes. Just like how all other American companies never really learn from their mistakes.

So, will the Germans lose any sleep over this?

Cadillac: Oh hey look! We have this super expensive SUV, this is gonna scare the Germans for sho!!

Germans: I keep hearing the sound of flies or something.

This is, the reality of it.

Escalate looks like a snow plow truck with too many lights. Really laughable.

This sounds like just a really high-end trim that tops off the Escalade line. "Generously equipped" for $90k. Meh, is that really so far off the competition or something? Not really. GM won't sell tons of these necessarily, but they're probably very profitable so why not give it a go? Land Rover has those "autobiography" (read: narcissist) editions for $200k AS IF the quality of JLR warrants a price tag of that magnitude (spoiler alert: it doesn't, but who cares it's not like they need to sell 50000 of them). Hating on GM might be trendy but $90k just isn't as "eye popping" for a pimped out SUV as it used to be. Germans won't care and they're too busy trying to compete with each other anyway. Filing this under "meh".

The top spec X5, LR RR, Lexus LX570, MB GL, Porsche Cayenne, and Toyota Land Cruiser are 80K and up so yes the Escalade can play with them too.

Escalade cannot play in the ultra luxury league. It's only real competition is GL550/63 and the Range Rover which are much nicer vehicles with arguably better drive trains and interiors.
Additionally, as we all know perception is reality. Not many people perceive Cadillacs to be in the same realm of the Benz or Rovers. With GM quality lately it will be a long time before anyone does.

GM, Ford and Chrysler should definitely be compared to Hyundai or KIA.

But then again, those two still make better cars than those 3 can imagine.

WOW take a Silverado truck, cover it with a cabin, make it look like a commercial truck with square cut and no emotion design, rename it after some French explorer who founded now fucked and defunked Detroit, come up with some bullshit edition and ask as much as 3-5 single family houses cost in most of Detroit area and pretend the American people have money printing machine at home or they have founded unclaimed millions in the trash can and are willing to buy old fashioned body-on-frame outdated technology big box on wheels for as much as fully loaded, unibody, technologically modern Benz GL 550.

Now that's one very unique only-in-Detroit story.

Of course instead of losing sleep, Germans now will sleep like a baby because they know that every God-given morning they will enjoy that unmistakable statistical truth that GL is and will remain a best selling full size luxury SUV in the world.

how could anyone go bankrupt while betting on the on-going legendary stupidity of GM

"Eye Popping"? The last generation Platinum was priced out at about $88k, so no, not eye-popping.

Second, has anyone priced out a loaded Mercedes GL-Class? Yep, it's $90+k and looks very generic and uninspired. The Cadillac technologically is a tour-de-force and at this price for the Platinum (for those who can actually afford one) is a bargain.

Finally, having owned a previous generation Escalade for 5 years and enjoying what it offers for WHAT IT IS, I would purchase this over the much more expensive Range Rover any day. Great job, Caddy!

Sounds like you drank the Cadillac Kool Aid. GM tech a tour deforce...naa...CUE is maligned by all. The Escalade itself is badge engineered. Big wheels and lots of lights don't make it cool.

My LR3 drives soooooooooo much better than any Escalade Ive ever driven. My co-workers 2006 escalade drives nowhere near as smooth and solid as my 06 LR3, and the escalade is supposed to be above an LR3. His drove sloppy, had absolutely zero steering feedback, felt so loose and bouncy, and had tons more rattles, the interior quality was utter garbage.the seats were horrible and didn't hold you in at all. the plastic was so cheap and the whole center console felt like it wasn't even bolted down, which is one thing that was a deal breaker when I bought my LR3, as every escalade I looked at was like this. Escalade is just an overpriced suburban/tahoe, and thats all it ever will be. people stupid enough to buy it don't cross shop the competition, because if they did and had any idea what quality feels like they would bypass the escalade without ever looking back. Escalade is garbage compared to its competition. anyone stupid enough to pay that much for a dressed up tahoe/suburban is an idiot.

this ting can't compete with the germans, except for the bragging right of being the largest. The germans out handle, drive better, and can do one thing this can't do, go offroad. You can only do so much with a rebadged suburban/tahoe. The only thing this is good for is hauling stuff and filling the egos of stupid people who just want attention. I'd take a GL over this anyday. It is better in every way. all that money and the third row passengers have to sit with their knees in their chest because the seats are mounded flat on the floor and there is no footwell for your feet, so your feet are literally level with your arse. My LR3 had a way more comfortable third row that the Escalade we looked at. after driving them both it was a no brainer. the Escalade felt so cheap. Fast forward to 2014 and every escalade from that year and even newer have cracked and split leather because they used such cheap and thin leather. The leather in my 01 Discovery look better than the leather from any escalade ive seen that is more than a couple of years old.

I like Cadillac cars just not their SUVs. The prices are reasonable and they can easily take on the performance of its rivals

It's not like Cadillac has never toyed with this price range before. They should have learned from their past mistakes that no one buys a Cadillac at this price. (remember the SL competitor?)

Cadillac has definately done a great job with the CTS and ATS. now if they would just make a better Escalade with a better chassis.
