No, Toyota has sold completely different cars under one nameplate in different places. That would be like VW selling the Jetta here as the Jetta and selling the Passat in Africa as the Jetta.

As you can see, the car pictured in the article is a competely different car than the one that is sold here. This gives the Corolla inflated sales nubmers.

The VW Jetta was sold in Europe as "Bora" a few years ago if I remember correctly. I believe currently it is sold as "Jetta" in Europe.

Yes Bora is the correct name. I've seen many people switched badging to Bora for their Jettas. At first I thought it was some sort of aftermarket tuned but that was before I knew it as just another name the European's used for the same car.

Going to buy a Toyota Corolla is about as exciting as going to buy a toilet.

The Corollas are different around the world, but they are all Corollas. That is the point here. Also vehicles should be different around the world so they cater to the individual markets that they sell in. This is also why the Corolla is a good seller because than there can be the boring looking American version and the better looking and equipped European version (I think nav is offered on the European version). However in the end, boring and all, the Corolla is still the best selling nameplate.

Toyota Corolla is absolutely everywhere! And it's too small and too cute. These are the only reasons I would never buy it, nothing against it. I'll just leave it for the other 35 million people who have bought it so far.

i was sitting in a coffee shop one day, and out the window less than 10 feet away, was a previous generation camry, a previous generation lexus es, and in between the pair was this current generation corolla.
they all definitely shared a family resemblance. and surprisingly, the corolla looked FAR MORE akin to the lexus than the camry did. squint a little and it DOES look like a scaled down lexus.

i've since noted, on other versions, the logo migrated from the center of the grill to the top bar, like on mazdas and echos.

but this one with the logo centered, and thin chrome strips on the leading edges of the grill bars, is more elegant and quite lexus-like. ditto the C-pillar.

I have to agree on one thing: The current Corolla really sucks. I mean if you have ever sat in one you will see that it is uncomfortable to drive, very high seat position, and it is really hard to get comfortable. Toyota should really make the Corolla so it is driver friendly in terms of comfort, being sportier won't hurt either. I just don't know why in the US we get the worst Corolla of them all.

so from 1966 to present, more cars have the corolla name than anyother. HOWEVER, the corolla has changed significantly since 1966 (i hope) so it is not the best selling vehicle in the world ever, as it has not had the same basic design.

currently the best selling per year car is the f-150.
