VIDEO: Porsche 911 Turbo S Caught Pushing the Envelope At Nurburgring

Try to push the current Porsche 911 Turbo S too hard into a bend and most of your efforts will amuse the car. Yes, the flat six bearer is that good. We are telling you this so that you can get an idea of how extreme the Porsche test driver in the adjacent clip is driving the 911 Turbo S facelift prototype - around the 0:50 mark, the rear-engined coupe is pushed into a noticeable drift.

Sure, you can drift the 911, but this was obviously not the man’s intention. Nonetheless, it is superb to notice how the all-wheel drive system on the Turbo S grips and accelerates even as the car slides - notice the driver only applies a limited amount of opposite lock.

In the case of the turbo S, it's the awd, rear wheel steering and dynamic chassis control (PDCC) that combine to allow one to carry a ridiculous amount of speed through the corners. When you drive a turbo S, it feels like a much lighter and smaller car. If you've ever driven a Boxster or Cayman, you know that feeling of the car pivoting around the driver in the corners, well surprisingly the rear engine turbo S kind of feels that way too.

You are right about the speed the new turbo carries through the corners. At the 0:31 mark one of the Turbo drivers passes a M4 like it was a cone on a auto cross track.

The 991 Turbo S is so good, that I traded my R8 in on one. The acceleration and cornering of the turbo S is just incredible. I do miss that incredible high RPM V10 wail - can't get that from a flat 6 with turbos.
