Would YOU Ever Buy A Luxury Car From A SHADY Car Dealer?
Located nearby where I live is a strip of car dealers alongside a state highway. Unlike the authorized and franchised businesses where you'll find a showroom and service center for a specific marque, these retailers offer a different experience. These independent dealers have the lot packed to the rafters with luxury vehicles and have enticing signage to get you on the lot.

As I was passing through the other day and I was stopped at a traffic light, I peered into one particular lot. It was full of late model Land Rover Range Rovers, Audis, BMWs — including an all-new 6-Series Gran Coupe —and Lexus'. I noted that there were actually a good amount of potential buyers walking in and out of the sales office and I could only wonder "Why?"

Am I missing something here?

Would YOU buy a luxury car from a SHADY car dealer?

Foolish question. But....look at how many gullible foolish Americans bought the shady con man obama...twice and now deeply regret their actions.

There are several dealer in the city I live that search for cars at auction that have an accident or frame damage that reports on Autocheck but not Carfax. Since most people aren't familiar with Autocheck and are very familiar with Carfax they don't think or know to ask for both. These used car dealers are buying at a steep discount then they turn around a sell it as clean carfax. I've ran in to this several times, people are shocked and confused by this and have zero recourse.

So would I buy from a edgy dealer, no.

Bingo! Well stated. The better question is if you want a late-model premium vehicle, buy a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle because if it is no as promised, the manufacturer is on the hook legally.

The shady dealer can say "I only check Carfax and I've never heard of Autocheck."

The shady car dealer isn't going to drop his price or offer some discount b/c he doesn't have either Carfax or Autocheck. The consumer would have to point out some obvious defect/damage & expect the dealer to disregard as he pushes on with the sale.

Yes, buying anything luxury or sporty from 1 of these shady lots is usually a "losing" bet every time. The sale price is much higher than it should be & there's probably some hidden mechanical (or major cosmetic) issue that has been "covered up" just to get the car off the lot & through the dealer warranty period. After that, the buyer is on the hook for whatever expensive repairs are necessary to keep the vehicle going.

And with that...I hate to see people with fresh temp tags on an old luxury vehicle from some obscure sketchy dealer. We know they have some cheap monthly payments for 5-6 years but are suffer from high maintenance/repair costs along the way to ultimately paying the clunker off.

The Tesla SUV will be a game-changer for the industry if all goes well. SUVs still remains popular with consumers who are least-likely to ever need the level of utility the basic AWD SUV has to offer. It will be interesting to see how many luxury SUV consumers will cross-shop the Tesla X with other similarly priced SUVs.
