STUD OR DUD? Toyota Teases Real World Supra Concept - Are You A Believer Now?

Has Toyota dropped a hint that the glorious FT-1 concept car could be bound for a showroom one day? It today unveiled new photographs of the super-coupe, calling it ‘a real-world’ version.

Toyota has form here, remember. The Lexus LFA was shown interminably at motor shows around the world - its gestation took so long, it even needed facelifting. While the Toyota FT-1 was only shown at the 2014 Detroit motor show, it’s telling that Toyota today issued two separate FT-1 announcements.

The roadgoing FT-1 has new, hyper-cool graphite paint in place of the original’s bright scarlet, and the cabin is overhauled with new saddle leather used.

Looks pretty far from production ready there.

Pretty daring for a production ready car. A bit over the top for my taste but that's just me and I'm afraid I'm way too conservative. Should address the complaints about Toyota being boring.

I like the profile, but the face and the tail are unattractive to the extreme, to my eyes.

Nice, but they better have the powertrain to back up the bold looks... and please none of the i8 3 cylinder crap. Give me TS040 super capacitor tech with a nice small flat planed crank V8.

That would cost a small fortune! It would end up more than the LFA with that powertrain.

design is way too over wrought - unless you're about 12 years old

Anyone who says the word 'overwrought' has got to be English. Ironic the Europeans are much more conservative these days and noticeably pick on the Asian market as being too aggressive in their styling. This is fantastic stuff people. You will see one of these on the road and the first thought will be F1; how cool is that...

Very Nice..

A 12 year old cannot do that, a 12 year old can doa trace of previous years R8 though !

I really want to like this car but the only word that comes to overwrought.

Europe worshippers are mad because they hate how amazing this Toyota looks.

Toyota/Lexus = The future

The face is hideous. The TVR Sagaris tail is delightful however.

I think it's a bold styling statement that is not a copy of any european car where styling is usually the best.....

Google TVR Sagaris and look at the tail.

The design maybe too much for a Supra, but would be awesome as the successor to LF-A. The profile is almost identical anyway.

I think it looks Bad Ass but you are right, it will be better as a successor to LF-A.

i love ALL of it... you guys are so hard to please, toyota is boring- they give you this and you say its too much ... i think this is the hottest car they have ever designed.

It looks pretty awesome but a lot of the elements aren't production feasible from what I see. The bumpers aren't crash test compliant and the scoops are too deep for aerodynamics. This probably has a cd of .4 like a truck. Look at the FT 86 concepts and the final product. I just don't see the final product if it even comes out being this wild. I wouldn't mind if it did though but it's hard to see.

You have to understand: The Toyota haters are never happy ! You are quite correct - this thing is un-Toyota like & that's a good thing !

It looks unique. The car looks the best from the side and quarter angle.

I like it but I'd probably like a slightly toned down version just as well.

Compare the ass ends of this and a Sagaris and the similarities are obvious.

Let's all freak about a concept car that'll be exactly what they build (in that both will have 2 doors and 4 wheels.) Just relax and enjoy that this isn't a typical Toyota and wait and see what the finished product looks like. Anything that adds juice to the market is fine with me. I'll never own it anyway. I just hope to see more things like this brought to those who'll actually drive it.
