Scoop! Mid-Engine Chevrolet Corvette is a Go!

A couple months ago, we predicted that after seeing GM trademark the name “Zora”, [ Could a mid-engine Corvette called the “Zora” be in the works? ] we predicted that a high performance ZR1 was unlikely for the C7 generation, but that:

The C8 platform will be able to accommodate a mid-engine design and an ultra high-performance, mid-engined Corvette called the “Zora” will be offered. This mid-engined Corvette could be powered in a similar fashion to Porsche’s 918 Spyder supercar, or the new hyper exotic Ferrari LaFerrari ; both of which use a hybrid-based powertrain.

If there’s any validity to Motor Trend’s “scoop”, our prediction might not be too far off base!!

Hasn't someone predicted this for the past 3 generations if not longer?

This would very exciting. May be possible for Chevy to sell both a front- & mid-engine version at the same time. The mid-engine version would be high-style, low production but offer reliable & competitive performance comparable to any exotic brand or model.

I would image that his would also encourage Ford to revive their GT40 or some variation & for FCA to possibly re-examine the ME-412 concept from the days of DCX life with Daimler-Benz.

...and I forgot about a possible Cadillac mid-engine version as well. Sheesh! But they have to keep the overall exterior to a minimum size. Build it, sell it, enjoy.

Check Corvette based Daytona Prototypes.

Motor Trend has been spouting the crap since before I was born and that some time in the Jurassic era.

Making the Corvette mid-engined would be as sacrilegious as doing a front engined Porsche 911.

BUT...leveraging Corvette as a sports car brand could really be a good way for GM to increase premium offerings.

Manta Ray = Z4 competitor
Sting Ray (I'd use the original two-word version)
Zora = range topping
