SPIED: All-New Spy Shot Of The Upcoming Porsche 911 GT3 RS Is Simply Delicious
I never use the word "delicious" to describe a ton and a half of metal. That's simply not appropriate. Now a scoop of Talenti's Mediterranean Mint, that makes sense.

However, when the vehicle in question is the all-new Porsche 911 (991) GT3 RS, then we're talking about a whole new ballgame, folks. I've been watching this vehicle evolve throughout its testing lifecycle and it appears we're getting really close to the end of the road here.

The only thing that remains is a matte black paint job and some tape.

Clearly sporting a new front lip, winglets, 911 Turbo air intakes behind the passenger doors, a wiiide rear track, fat rear tires and a spoiler big enough to eat dinner on, the RS is coming into true form now.

Anyone want to bet when this P car will make its first appearance? Frankfurt? Paris? What say you, Spies?

The rumors all point to Paris if you go by Rennlist. I hope so. I've had a deposit on this for more than 3 years, when the 4.0 RS order book closed before my eyes...

On that note, 00R, I just picked-up my GT3 yesterday. You'd asked for driving impressions... So here it is though with very limited time behind the wheel.

First, it feels special. Like it's carved out of a solid block of metal. The engine makes wonderful music, especially above 4k though the surprise is that it isn't that much louder than a C2S with the sport exhaust. It's mostly different, more guttural, with a most pleasant rattle at idle. It felt 'reasonable' as a first reaction, even subdued relative to expectations.

The steering is interesting. Very interesting. It feels lighter than the C2S I drove to the dealership. (Also 991) I suspect it's related to the 4WS. That thing turns extremely quickly, which is why I think it feels light. It's about the degree of lock relative to the turn angle. I think. It'll be interesting to load it up in hard cornering... Later today. (Though track time only in Sep)

Of course, the acceleration is superb. I didn't test launch control yet but other folks have reported 3-ish on the 0-60 and it's credible. What's interesting is that given the closeness of the gear ratios on the PDK-S, the downshifts are smoother than the upshifts, which slam you in the back. Even going from 2nd to 1st... Quick and enjoyable, especially around 9k. (I was told by Porsche not to worry about break-in so... That's in fact what you see in Birmingham. Hit the track right off the truck.)

The biggest surprise was the chassis. It's rock steady and flat in curves - which you'd expect - but not harsh at all. Quite compliant even on poor roads, which I hit on purpose. That was surprising, almost disappointing since you want the thing to feel like it's a beast and that makes it feel almost docile.

All-in-all, two thumbs up.

Alain
