Sounds like a real honest move by a guy who is quite possibly mentally shaken by the entire incident.

I don't think Stewart is considering retirement to escape possible criminal charges.

You know that he had to feel that impact... just the thought of that is happened is seared in to your mind.

I would imagine is very hard to try and forget that, and this is probably the right move for him.

I am not a NASCAR fan, follow F1. TS should not retire. Kevin Ward Jr. runs out to the middle of the track, wearing all black, at a night race, and gets hit. I am sure Stewart had racing "goggles" on, so impaired peripheral vision. Sure he feels bad but TS lives to race. He ran Lewis Hamiltons F1 Mercedes McLaren a few years back. He was so fat he had a difficult time just getting into the car. Just take the rest of the year off.

also , for the record i am NOT a Nascar fan , and def not a Mr. Stewart fan, due to his stupid wamby pamby temper tantrums, to me thats not a man, but a spoiled rotten lil baby. BUT i dont believe he did that on purpose.. research the different tracks, for the caution, those cars caution speeds are between 35 and 45 mph, and ill bet you didnt know that those cars are also steered by ..da da daaaaaaaaa. the flipping throttle...i happen to have good friends who are sprint car drivers and i go to the TRACK not my fkn couch and sit there , i know how the track conditions can cause serious issues with vision, bah .. why explain to you... he veered away , im willing to stake my life on the fact that he DIDNT see the angry young Ward and when he did , he used what is the fastest way to manuver away, but if you watch the sad video , he veers a way and yes has to give a bit of gas, but Kevin Ward Jr, was so pissy about being schooled which , like it or not kiddos , these old guys gonna teach ya, if you cant handle it.. go buy a dress and heel and hit the local bar , got no business Racing..Kevin was so mad he kept walking forward..EVEN hearing the engine rev. he could have jumped back, but no, he wanted a piece of Tony. such a tragic day, but .. there was someone who could have stopped the whole thing from happening, i know at our tracks , the tempermental toddlers get out of their cars without the safety crews assist on a caution. and is guesturing and throwing crap, our flagman REDFLAGS THE RACE. i know that they can see the whole track from their perch.. someone should be asking the official who had the power to end everything before it ended with the loss of a young mans life and a Mans career and the knowledge that yea. he did hit him , and yea it killed the boy, it took his LOVE of the Race and destroyed it. My deepest prayers and sympathies to both families.. may you find peace in your hearts and healing in time. to all the motherf&*rs who keep this shit going... remember , there will come a day when you stand before the Almighty, i suggest you take heed... Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged , only one has that power or right... how do you want to be judged ?

@dirt track angel. Your language is quite colorful for someone who quotes scripture. Might want to re-think that approach.
I know I cannot begin to know what Tony is feeling these days but I would rather have seen Tony take some time off to think about the decision to retire as opposed to making it official while his emotional state is probably very fragile. I feel very sorry for him that his memories of his career may end this way. Whether we are Tony Stewart fans or not we could probably agree we wouldn't with what he's going through on anybody.

sure get tired of everyone feeling sorry for tony, although not a fan i have watched him race sprints and cup cars long enough to know that this incident could have been prevented. i'm sure he did not mean to harm ward in any way, just to intimidate him and show him not to mess with the "great" tony stewart. any driver know when you hit the gas and spin the tires on a high powered sprint car it is going to slide up the track, other drivers have even commented what he did is common in sprint racing, called mudding or other terms. you can see the look of terror on wards face at the last minute as he tried to jump back out of the way, he and his family deserve the compassion, not tony. i hope he does retire, and he better start selling off assets before the lawsuits get it all. i hope he loses his race track and everything he ever worked for, he has his life, wards is gone and too early an age.
