Russia Threatens To Ban Western Vehicle Imports If Additional Sanctions Are Imposed
Russia may tighten retaliatory sanctions against Western nations to include a ban on imports of cars, if the United States and the European Union impose additional sanctions on Moscow, the Vedomosti daily newspaper reported today.

Following Russia's standoff over Ukraine, Western nations imposed sanctions on Moscow including on its financial and energy sectors, and put dozens of Russians close to President Vladimir Putin on a sanctions list.

Russia, which denies allegations it is arming separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine, may fully or partly ban imports of cars, the Vedomosti newspaper said, citing sources.

Thought I was dealing with intelligent people on this board, but I should have been known when anytime Japanese luxury automakers introduce a vehicle that challenges the western Europe establishment, the only criticism you all can come up with is "oh its a re-made maxima/camry etc" when that remade ship sailed in the 90s. I mean its still laughable considering their mainstream cars are a million times reliable than anything put out by anyone else. But this Putin thing takes the cake - this is the guy that claimed that the sanctions had NO EFFECT on Russia. If not then why is he retaliating with his weak-@ss sanctions, that he's scrambling around trying to enact. I mean he is reaching, really. This make5 Obama look like a chimp????! Please enlighten me on how? You guys are hilarious.

The Russian government may be banning vehicles from the EU and US..but the Russians who want western autos will just smuggle them in new from foreign countries or bring in gently-used (i.e. stolen from the Los Angeles or Houston areas) ones.

The people this sanction will punish are (a) escalade and MB GL owners in the US and (b) auto insurance companies - the Russians will still be able to obtain their posh cars
