Jaguar Placing BMW M3 On Notice With New 489HP XE Sedan

Jaguar is planning a BMW M3-beating high performance version of its forthcoming XE Saloon, Auto Express can reveal.

It will use the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 from the F-Type S roadster tuned to 489bhp to enable it to sprint from 0-62mph in around four seconds and go on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

JLR’s recently formed Special Vehicle Operations division will prepare the car and it’s tipped to wear the company’s new SVR performance badge.

Makes sense as the only sensible engine option from Jaguar.

yea, because that's all you have to do Jag, throw a powerful motor in a car and it instantly competes and BMW should be warned, riight... With all your cool performance benchmark vehicles, I am sure BMW is really scared...

It also has a bunch of aluminum in the design, this could be around 3,500 pounds.

My first thought when I saw this car was that it was a blue Chevy SS.

Perhaps not a great start for what is supposed to be a game changer.

Could the styling be more generic? Looks like an old Acura Integra from the back, except back then, the Integras were considered nice looking.

it seems every few months we have an m3 killer but each new m3/m4 sells more than ever before (while continuing to go upmarket i.e. cost more).

i am sure bmw is scared...
