BIG WORDS For A Niche Player? Infiniti Teases A New Vehicle
As the Paris Motor Show prepares to kick off in October, Infiniti has released a teaser for a new vehicle that promises to “on a scale not seen before” from the luxury automaker. With little more than a teaser image and a 32-word press release, there isn’t much information to go on, but there are a few different possibilities for what Infiniti has in store.

Back in June, Andy Palmer, Nissan executive vice president and chief planning officer as well as a chairman of Infiniti, confirmed that Infiniti would be building a new small crossover called the Infiniti QX30. Slotting below the QX50, this would definitely be on a scale not seen from Infiniti in the past, so this Paris announcement could be a concept vehicle hinting at the future QX30.

If they live up to their lofty claims, cool. I'm skeptical, though. Infiniti makes nice cars, no doubt, but their styling language leaves me with unmoved. To my eyes, they're just another quirky-looking car (or SUV).

I'm skeptical, too. So many odd/bad decisions and product direction in the past few years.

Jock de Nicotine or whatever the idiot was that did the renaming scheme and gave us the Q50 and the abysmal Eau Rouge has cut a gaping hole in the sinking ship of Infiniti... The money from Renault/Nissan/Infiniti to keep sales from going into the "spitter" is epic at this point. And it just gets worse.

Will it be another vapid nothing like the idiotic Eau Rouge? The sad thing is that Cadillac is stuck with the moron that set Infiniti's current clusterbang into motion.

Yes, Johann de Nysschen is the idiot, that's why he's selected to run automotive brands globally and you, by your own admission, work in a dealership. I'm sure he's reading this right now getting ready to comment, you know, because he has the time and inclination.

Matt, I'm not sure he's an idiot... I've done work for Nissan and I know you are involved at the retail levels, you know much more than I do. However, in this company and other Asian brands, I know the Mothership dictates alot to the Executives, they do not have Carte Blanche. Additionally what were the budgets at Infiniti and what were the plans & goals. As you know the key is Product/Product/Product so renaming might confuse less, but luxury/performance cars is more about product, then name. However, pedigree does count, ALOT! An Infiniti GT-R that was gorgeous would have helped I think, but that's not enough. It would have created a buzz, that needed to be backed up with other cars regular folks can afford. That said, I don't really ever see Infiniti EVER as a Tier 1 Luxury car, Lexus either, they have no pedigree or history. Cadillac & Lincoln do and they have a chance I think. de Nysschen did do a lot with Audi there is no denying that and has enough smarts to warrant extraction from Audi to Infiniti and now Cadillac. I think 5 yrs from now if Cadillac is still where they are today he will not be viewed as a success...
