SPIED: Suburbanites Rejoice! The Ultimate Mommy Mobile, The Mercedes-Benz GL, Is Getting An Update
If you live in a suburban area, there's a good chance you've seen way too many Mercedes-Benz GL's in your lifetime. Between it and the Land Rover Range Rover, these two vehicles are a "must have" in the 'burbs.

Not only can you travel with the family in the confines of total luxury, you don't have to worry about safety as you're wheeling around in what is essentially a modern day tank. Oh, and you'll impress everyone when you show up to Little League practice.

Long story short, people love 'em. I can't figure out why as I despised it when I had a press GL.

As seen in the collection of spy photographs, the GL-Class is due for a minor revision to bring it inline with the rest of the Mercedes-Benz product portfolio. Don't expect too much to happen.

I'd wager the three-pointed star will update its powertrain options, provide it with some of the latest groundbreaking technology and give its front- and rear-end some nip/tuck treatment.

Why fix something that's not entirely broke, right?

It's a great daddy mobile too and in general a great product as well.

Since this came out, the world is no longer stuck with under-powered and very overpriced Land Cruiser or the glorified version with Lexus written on it, or always-breaking down and never-properly-working Range Rover, or body-on-frame glorified Silverado truck with Cadillac written on it.

It's nice when you have choices, especially like this one, luxurious, safe, original, normally priced, high resale value and best seller

Mercedes has downsized pretty hard, all of the 450 V8 TT are now going to be V6 TT. Perhaps a bit too much because I assume you are paying the same amount but are getting quite a bit less engine. Sure it's still more than adequate but before it was almost insane.

I kinda agree. I like that many of the luxury makers have found new ways to use twin-turbo tech, but I much appreciate the availability of a burbly V8. Many of these TT-V6 engines come with serious HP, but the torque lags quite a bit in many cases.

It would be interesting if many of the current V8s came with much smaller cyl displacements, twin-turbos, cyl deactivation tech, & maybe start-stop capabilities. Or does 1 of those exists today & wondering what fuel usage would be on average for it?

The GL...a mommy-mobile?! Never saw that. The current GL still a grown-man SUV. Though it's not as "showy" like the new Escalade...it doesn't have to be. Now, the ML/GX/SRX/RX seems to be prevent at nearby soccer fields though.
