For SPEED Or For STYLE? If YOU Had $100,000 Would YOU Get The 2015 Corvette Z06 OVER The 911, F-Type, R8, GT-R, M6, V8 Vantage?
This week General Motors' Chevrolet division threw out a bombshell. It priced the all-new 2015 Corvette Z06.

Now, to give this context as to why it's a big deal, hear me out. When the Z06 Coupe was shown at the Detroit Auto Show and said to have over 600 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, not only was everyone amazed, everyone was trying to figure out the economics behind the car.

And when we saw the Z06 Convertible drop the top in the Big Apple, it was very much the same feeling. So when GM announced the 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. torque figure everyone was thinking the car would retail with a base price of somewhere between $90-100,000 smackers. BUT to everyone's dismay, the base price will be $78,995 for the coupe and $83,995 for the rag top.

Having driven the Stingray, I can tell you the base car equipped with the Z51 package is good. Really good. In fact, I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Not the interior, not the graphical user interface. Zippo. So, I only can imagine the Z06 being stratospherically better. At least the C6 was.

This leads me to wonder: if I had $100,000 would I go for the Z06 or would I opt for something like a Porsche 911, Nissan GT-R, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, BMW M6, Audi R8 or Jaguar F-Type.

There's a lot of good cars at this rate, but, what would it be? What say YOU, Spies?

The Z06...you get the fastest best handling car at a base price under $80,000 plus change to buy something for your significant other. Nothing else comes close for the price and bragging rights.

Cheaper than a GT-R, and yet, looks like a real gorgeous supercar.

Z06 is truly the winner.

Depends what I want the car to be.

Most fun? Z06

Best performer? GT-R

Coolest car? i8

Best all in one car? 911

I don't get the hype for the F-Type (if it didn't have a Jaguar badge on it I firmly believe the press would do a total 180 and hate on it for being the overpriced overweight thing that it is) and other than the exterior appearance I've never thought the R8 was anything special.

I'm a dedicated Porschephile but a Z06 is a hard combo to beat. Generally I hate Vettes but you cannot argue with these numbers. The only way I'd choose any of those cars over the Z06 is if the Dollargot stronger and I could get a 911 Turbo S for maybe 15% more than the Vette.

Hell yes the Z06! All the others are for posers who rent them for a few years. Except for maybe the GT-R.

can't leave out the Audi R8: GTR- like handling, 911 performance, and it looks like you have Aston Martin money - certainly not a poseur for poseurs.

Just curious, why was it to "everyone's dismay" that the base price would be lower than expected? Or am I reading the context wrong? It would seem that the lower price would be a good thing.

I'd buy a used Porsche Turbo with $100k, and save what's leftover for all of the repairs I'll be making to it.

Much as TauronB2G said, I like Porsche.

While I'm not crazy about the looks of the coupe, just a matter of personal taste, the Z06 drop top is very interesting. Very interesting.

Unless you are stretching for a $100k car, what this does, IMO, is make the Vette a serious option for a third or fourth set of wheels. (Sedan; SUV; sports car; convertible) I am definitely going to have to rethink my dislike of Vettes past '73s...

The base Stingray out handles the Jag F-Type already so the 2015 Corvette Z06 will make it look silly for the same price. I can't stand the Porsche Super Beetle. The GTR produces amazing numbers but it feels like you're driving a computer. The software that makes it do what it does it too evident. The current BMW 6 needs to be even more divorced in styling than it is from its Bangle butt predecessor. V8 Vantage? Good car, but the Corvette is the one to choose.

The Corvette is great, but I'd go for the F-Type coupe. Its fast enough for me, and the styling is amazing.

Is this article an ad for Chevy Corvette? Sure looks like it.

What a value the Vette is, it really show's what a rip off some of it competitors are. It's amazing to me the 911 is even on this list, it only competes because of price point, the Z06 just completely bury it in performance and value. VW makes on average $23,000 each Porsche sold, I wonder when the sports car buying public is going to wake up to the fact they are not the best sports car out there for the money.

"...I wonder when the sports car buying public is going to wake up to the fact they are not the best sports car out there for the money."

what makes you think anyone views a Porsche purchase as a "value" purchase in comparison to anything but a Ferrari?

VW makes a lot of money on Porsches. If people knew the "real" invoice versus sticker on a 911 they would be angered. The dealer invoice isn't the real invoice. For example if the dealer invoice is $15K but the dealer has a $2K incentive behind the scenes, the real invoice is $13K. The Germans are the "worst" for artificial dealer invoices.

"what makes you think anyone views a Porsche purchase as a "value" purchase in comparison to anything but a Ferrari?"

Because they used to be. Before the God-awful 993 911, there was a lot of craftsmanship and value in a Porsche. Just look at some of the resale values on those cars. Now days the most important part of a Porsche resale value is the MSRP sticker not the car its self. Porsche use to be a great sports car maker, then they tried to be a hedge fund, and now the just a branch of VW trying to soak every last dime out of it badge whores.

I would not dismiss the F Type just yet. Like Porsche Jaguar is continually developing it. I predict there will be even better handling performing F Types. Corvette has come a lone way in ride and handling and it's interiors. Saying this I'm just not sure it's quality is up to a 911 standard. For 100 grand you want more than just performance. You want quality, comfort, some refinement etc. Porsche Jaguar, Audi etc. have this. Also the new Corvettes styling is a bit busy.
