Volkswagen To Release Next Gen Golf In 2017
Volkswagen plans to launch the eighth generation of its best-selling Golf compact in 2017, just five years after launching the present model, a German magazine reported. Auto motor und sport said the new lower, wider Golf will look very different from the current seventh-generation hatchback with new design features including restyled front and rear lights. Volkswagen will also offer new safety options in the Golf, including automatic parking and automatic braking with pedestrian recognition that will also be available in the new midsize Passat which will begin sales later this year, the report added.

Yawn! The Golf is a pointless vehicle for the North American market. They need the following:

VW Fiesta / Yaris / Fit
VW Escape / RAV4 /CRV
VW Focus / Elantra / Corolla / Civic
VW Fusion / Camry / Accord
VW Edge
VW Explorer / Highlander
VW Taurus / Azera / Avalon / Cadenza

...but they are too stupid to see that.

They should replace the Jetta and Golf with a Jetta family 3dr, 5dr, and sedan.

They already have the two most important covered and are slowly making the crossover and the US should get a Tiguan or a Tiguan variant better suited. The other areas aren't really worth it. The Jetta coupe could have done pretty well I do believe. The CC Jetta could work too but there hasn't been any spy shots of that yet. It would probably have to take until the MQB Jetta arives. As for the next Golf it will probably be hre in 2020!

Ok, somebody please explain VW's rationale to me.

Because if they don't want to be gone from the U.S. in 5 years, they need to:

a) Replace the Jetta and Passat ASAP
b) The new cars have to be absolutely trouble free. No excuses. Cars in this day and age should not brake down.
c) Use their relationship with Audi as a selling point.
d) Understand that hatchbacks are not liked in America, and that special editions of them won't do the trick either.
