Volkswagen Workers Form Anti-Union To Directly Oppose UAW

Volkswagen workers who oppose the United Auto Workers at the German automaker’s plant in Chattanooga are looking to form their own union.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the group wants to form the first chapter of what would be called the American Council of Employees.

Worker Mike Burton said if the group can collect 500 signatures, it would be able to call for an election at the plant. He says 108 workers had signed up on the first day.

VW management wants worker representation, but does it have to be through the UAW?

No it doesn't have to be via a union. In fact US style unions will be a detriment. There are examples all over the place of companies that bring active participation of employees ("associates", etc.) and customers into the business. These firms are usually great examples of win-win-win for the customers, employees and the shareholders.

Worker representation is driving VWs profits into the toilet in Europe. Seems VW is not very smart.

I applaud the workers and I decry the Gestapo tactics of VW and the Mafia tactics of the UAW.

This site sure does seem to attract a good number of anti-worker types. Unions have always been a counter force to management, which has its own perspectives on things like working conditions, wages, fairness and/or pensions. Sometimes everyone has to sit down and figure out what's fair. I don't think it's too much to ask or bargain for.
