Infiniti Says New Q40 Will Replace G37 - But Has No Idea What It Will Be Or When
Infiniti earlier this year announced it would rename its G37 model Q40 for the ’15 model year.

Now the Nissan luxury brand says it will keep the Q40 name even after the car formerly known as the G37 exits the lineup.

“At some point we'll have another model that will sit below the Q50, so it's going to be a legacy nomenclature,” Infiniti Americas Vice President Michael Bartsch tells WardsAuto in an interview here during an Infiniti Q70 media preview.

The G37 has stuck around the Infiniti lineup in spite of its advanced age and the introduction of its successor, the Q50, one year ago.

Just like the Infiniti execs, I have no clue about their future.

For a luxury brand that really doesn't have huge lineup, there are too many unknowns. What would the Q40 look like, a blinged-out Sentra or Juke? Either would be an industry joke. The G37 has hung around for too long especially since the Q50 has been fully rolled out to customers (something old GM would've done...in the '90s). It's like Infiniti knew consumers weren't going to warm up to the new Q50 & additional costs, & kept the older model around to offer something for consumers who just had to have a mid-size car at reasonable prices.

Stop making the G since the model naming is gone & that model was replaced. Seems like Infiniti may be considering using a "revised & updated" G37 to become the new Q40. If they're being cheap, it'll make sense.

...and even try to speculate about the future of the Maxima, Armada, QX70 (FX), & Q70. Questions abound. But they got a load of nice concepts.

When Infiniti introduced the G35 sedan/coupe in addition the FX i really thought they had found their stride. Unfortunately Infiniti has the same problem as many American luxury brands and that's consistency or lack thereof.

The brand can't overtake competitors or survive by just introducing 1 hit every 7 years, establish your lineup, the Germans have provided a blueprint, use it and add your own twist

It's sad cuz I want Infiniti to do well.

And I know I'm the minority here but I like their design theme.

i like infiniti design.. i think their naming convention is dictated by a insecure child trying to pick their favorite letter and number. Just name the cars infiniti and move on.

Seriously, what happened to this company? What the hell did what's-his-name do during his tenure there besides f*ck-up the names of their cars. Is that on his list of accomplishments on his resume? Because that's the only significant thing he did. The Infiniti G35 sedan and coupe were truly benchmark cars in so many ways and now the entire brand seems in question. Sure, I know Acura went offtrack, but Infiniti is now about 10 miles south of the track.

Seems a pretty simple solution - build an entry-level lux model, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE (CLA, A3, etc.). It's not that hard - and I don't know why this company makes it so... Like they wouldn't want to do a sedan version of the Q30? I really hope they're being purposefully being vague, and not that clueless. They should hire me and I'll turn them around for a tenth of what Johan De Nysschen squeezed out of them.
