First 2015 Mustang Rolls Off Assembly Line

The first of Ford Motor Co.’s 2015 Mustangs roll off the line Thursday at its Flat Rock Assembly Plant.

The Dearborn automaker will mark the milestone with a press event. For the first time in its 50 years in production, Mustangs will be sold globally to more than 120 countries.

“The Mustang is and will continue to be an automotive icon,” Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of the Americas, said in a statement. “Expanding its availability globally affords  our customers around the world the opportunity to have a true, first-hand Mustang experience — one unlike any other.”

They're losing it again. Ford had a big hit with the original 1964 (and a half, for you sticklers out there) Mustang. It was a winning combination of styling, sporting looks, surprising appointments, and an affordable price tag that let the common man feel like he could attain something very special. In the years that followed, the Mustang became diluted, becoming only a distant memory of the icon it once was, until eventually, "Mustang" didn't mean much.

When Ford resurrected the Mustang with its retro-inspired styling, they captured much of the original car's distinct character. It was done "right," and people noticed.

But the 'Stang is once again being diluted to become yet another uninteresting car. The distinct face with its "I'm a Mustang" headlights are being shed in favor of what just about everybody else is doing: swoopy, elongated lights. Take the pony off the grill, and it would lose its instinct recognition factor.

I have to agree stylistically, but our order queue is substantial.

NO...that would be the 2005...the styling is wrong.

I waited 8 months from time of my order to receive my 2006 Mustang GT vert (it originally was going to be a 2005, but took so long that it became a 2006.). Having a 2001 before it, I cannot explain how excited I was to receive the new one. I have not felt the same about a new Mustang style since, especially the 2015. I love my 2006 so much, 9 years later, I still have it as my weekend summer car and have no intention of letting it go.

I like the new look and how long has the world waited for independent rear suspension. I'll wait to see it in person before jumping to judgement but it has potential especially over seas where I think people saw it a archaic with the live axle. I know I did.
