Chief Planning Officer At Nissan Leaving To Head Aston Martin
Andy Palmer, the car-guy chief planning officer at Nissan Motor Corp., who was once tipped as a possible future CEO, is leaving the company to head UK sports-car maker Aston Martin.

Nissan has tapped Renault Executive Vice President Philippe Klein, 57, to fill Palmer’s spot as chief planning officer and a member of the board. He will report to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn and oversee global product planning, marketing, sales and zero-emissions vehicles.

Aston Martin said in a statement today that Palmer's duties at the carmaker will start after he completes a transition period from Nissan. Palmer's background and experience, including leadership of Nissan's luxury Infiniti brand, will be "instrumental in taking Aston Martin forward," the statement said.

Harrr if anyone is worse than Aston Martin at planning their product portfolio it's Nissan. But will be interesting to see if it has any noticeable impact.

There are plenty of companies with worse product portfolios than Nissan. In fact, what's really wrong with Nissans line? Infiniti is a shambles right now but Palmer had nothing to do with that.

Interesting, this is the same guy who helped coordinate the parts/engine sharing between Benz and Nissan. Nissan next gen large Infiniti SUVs/trucks will ride on GL platforms.

If the rumored upcoming buyout of Aston by Benz is true, he may aid that effort as well

His first "planning" point should be to improve quality. My DB9 is a piece of junk. To put things in perspective, I owned an 1982 Audi 5000 (which was the most junky car I ever owned) and more stuff has broken on the DB9 in my 18 months of ownership than in 6 tortuous years with the Audi.
