How Is This Going To Work Out? Infiniti Plans To Challenge The Panamera With Q80 Sport Sedan

Infiniti has released a preview picture of its new concept car, which will make its debut at the Paris motor show next month.

The concept, dubbed Q80 Inspiration, is described as a "low-slung, ingeniously aggressive four-passenger fastback" and previews a production car which will sit at the very top of Infiniti's range.

While details on the new model are scarce, Infiniti's long-held plans to take on luxury rivals like Porsche with a larger sports saloon are well known. It's previously been mooted that such a car could come to market in 2017 or 2018.

Good freakin' luck, Infiniti folks :-/

Perhaps you might consider learning to walk before you attempt to run. Your current styling language doesn't do your fine cars justice, and it certainly won't knock something like the Panamera.

I think this a pretty awesome and bold move by Infiniti, not only have they made a direct target for their upcoming flagship, they've also further positioned themselves in the market place.

Exciting stuff, competition is always a good thing. The boys at Nissan did wonders with Godzilla AKA GTR, who knows wat this new flagship sedan will be capable of

Who the heck knows? All we see so far is a silhouette. Show us the real car along with specs and then we can talk intelligently about it. But it's not inconceivable. Nissan makes a GTR which can whoop many a Porsches ass.

Easy Pal, GTR is doing well against the 911 turbo...so better to wait to see what the time has to say...

I love the current M56. A Infiniti with a big V8 or the GTR's turbo six would be awesome.

They haven't even gotten the Rouge Merde out and they are after the Panamera? The Panamera is a hideous car but it is a stunning drive. Johan de Nutsack clearly addicted Infiniti to Walter White's meth because a meth-induced hallucination is the ONLY way Infiniti and Porsche can be mentioned as competitors.

Remember that RENAULT is at the helm and the clusteflub becomes more amusing.

I'm total confused about their new model nomenclature. It was easy and more straight forward prior to the change.

Probably a sleek design sitting on modified GTR engine/drivechain

Well, not sure this is the right target on which Infiniti should be focused at the moment. Panameras are a dime-a-dozen where I live, where I'm positive the total number of Panameras probably triple the number of CLS63s, RS7s, and M6 GCs, combined. What makes Infiniti think they would be able to steal any thunder that the other Germans could not? There's a reason the IS-F was essentially a failure against the M3 and C63.

And for those saying the GTR is competitive with the 911, yes, you are correct, performance-wise. Sales-wise, not even close it's silly. YTD 2014, the GTR has moved 859 in the US while the 911 has moved over 7000. Previous year was no different.

Did Infiniti themselves say that they were targeting Porsche??? I mean really isn't Infiniti's whole premise sport-luxury, with an emphasis on sport?? It's only recent that they've refined the vehicles to the point that they are numb in many respects, because luxury buyers don't like cars with a personality, but pure speed and outright ridiculous handling is what Nissan and by extension Infiniti is about at their core. With that being said take a drive in the current M56 (Q70 with the 5.6 liter) and tell me the performance isn't bleeding edge. I for one have pushed my M37X to some points where I had to back off because I couldn't shake the car and I'm talking about at speeds of 130 MPH on regular interstates (you know roads and curves not built for those speeds). I raced a guy in a Panamera S and my car didn't flinch - but he did, then I did. By the way I'm know both autos had plenty more to give but I was feeling pretty invincible and I'm sure the Porsche guy was as well in his car. Of course Porsche is going to outsell it 10 to 1 but I think you guys just do a bunch of reading but aren't really driving these cars that you criticize or claim to know so much about.

The Essence concept was easily one of the best looking concept cars I've ever seen, and at the time many of you would agree. If they can do the same with this car, it'll sell fine and really help the brand's image. Its not until the recent name change that people have suddenly thrown Infiniti away, forgetting that the G was hailed as one of the best in the class when it was first released.
