STUD OR DUD? At Only $44K Will The Jaguar XE Be Able To Steal Some Of The German's Thunder?
British automaker Jaguar Land Rover has just unveiled the new 2015 Jaguar XE, the entry-level model that should take on the BMW’s 3 Series, Mercedes’ C-Class and Audi’s A4.
The new XE model is the cheapest jaguar vehicle at about $44,000 when will hit the market next year – and is the first model to use JLR’s new aluminum rear-wheel-drive architecture. The new lightweight architecture is expected to increase the sporty performance of the little sedan – as the automaker seeks to revive the sporty image of its heyday in the 1960s.

They might steal a few German customers, but non of Japanese competitors business. Totally different segment of the market.

It has potential, would hit the mark if it was priced $6k cheaper, I see it moving atleast around the same volume as the A4

Judging by appearance alone because I haven't driven either, I think I like this one better.

Perspective in first photo looks a little too Volvo for me and side view is kind of generic. Otherwise, not a bad looking car, just not distinguished

I'm curious to see the wood grain interior option. It looks a little stark inside from the photos. Exterior it says modern Jag which is fine. I think it's lightness and suspension potentially promise best in class in terms of ride and handling. I can say right off Mercedes C class beats it inside in terms of upscale luxury looks. However they may be the best driving car so it would definitely be on my radar list.

Nothing special but more of a "me too". Not bad looking on the outside, interior (dash) looks boring... Still its another option for folks in the segment. The segment includes A4, 3 Series, ATS and C Class... they for got one... if you don't want to be just another 3 Series, A4 or C Class leaser, lease one of these...

Cheap and dated inside, just ok looking outside. It brings nothing new to this segment. Germans need not be worried.

The 340bhp 6 is Supercharged, BMW's 335i = 300bhp is a twin turbo as is Mercedes C Class at 329-hp 3.0-liter V-6, the A4 only comes with the 2.0-4 w/220bhp, Lexus IS 3.5 = 306bhp... seems the ATS 3.6 at 321bhp normally aspirated on regular fuel is the best of the bunch with more power and not in need of a boost... nice!

Never mind that its the oldest, slowest, least refined, and thirstiest among all those.
And also never mind that government motors has a twin turbo version of it available in their hideous cts, which will likely trickle down.
Bottom line, dont be ignorant and certainly dont be a fanboy of the worst car company in america, that should have died but instead needed our handouts to survive.

Looks better...WAY better...than the hideous, melted c class. Most especially on the inside. See, benz, THIS is how you design an interior; no dime-store air vents and no glued on 200 dollar tom-tom nav screen.

I agree with some of the other posts about it lacking some sex appeal. I drove a F type recently and was really impressed with how it handled and sounded. Jag is back!

THIS is what we've been anticipating all this time? Practically indistinguishable from the XF. And that interior looks right at home in a Fusion. Sorry, Jag, but this thing already looks 10 years old, inside and out. Good luck competing with the Volvo S60 for sales.

$15K overpriced. The styling is straight out of model year 2000 and looks like an Acura TSX with the ugly XJ mouth grafted on. This is an epic clusterfluck. I'm glad we ditched our our interest in the money-losing Jag dealer.

I think there is a lot of impressive stuff in here, .26 drag coefficient, light weight construction, super tidy design, more than enough power train options It's is certainly appears to be a well engineered machine.

This is from a Jaguar fan and owner, admittedly of the old school variety ('06 XJ SuperV8, '03 X-Type 3.0).
Under the skin, very impressive. Will probably post great numbers and have true sport car feel.
The skin, however, is indistinguishable from an XF, which was never that pretty, honestly. It does have a few tweaks from the XF, some sharper creases, etc., but still it will suffer from the A4/A6/A8 confusion that has kept me from Audi. Interior looks molded. Even with wood instead of aluminum, if available, it will not outclass the new C-Class.
I despair. Jaguars are supposed to be fast and sporty, and the XE will exhibit that, but Jaguars are also supposed to stand out from the crowd, look bespoke, and feel effortless. Panache, don't you know?

Design-wise it's okay but it won't change anything sales wise. Prospective 3-Series/A4/C-class buyers will continue to buy those vehicles. This car doesn't do enough to cause buyers to think twice about buying the established German competitors.
The exterior is okay but not sporty or different enough to cause lust. The interior is a step below the new C-class and not even on par with the existing and outdated A4. Audi will surely move the benchmark higher once it integrates its new all-digital dash into future models such as the new A4.
This Jaguar is dead on arrival. Better luck next time Jaguar. Until you change your same design different model approach that obviously is not working for you the way it does for the Germans, get-rid of the blingy, technofied interior and improve your reliability - you're going to continue your also-ran status.

Exterior styling wise it's OK. It's not a standout but then neither is Audi, Mercedes, BMW or Cadillac. Maybe the replacement for the Volvo S60 will shine better I don't know. I'm actually waiting for the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulietta. From the photos the center console looks decent. However the rest looks a bit austere. If I were Jag I would have taken inspiration from the F Type to have the XE stand out from the crowd. I'm sure it is a great driving car but the styling package does not go quite far enough.

The exterior is dated and doesn't advance Jaguar's look and the interior is a complete FAIL. It looks cheap and dated to say the least. New C-Class has nothing to worry about here, nor does the 3-Series which will be facelifted next year. New A4 will most definitely kill it when it arrives.

I would not bet on Audi, BMW or Audi styling killing it. German styling revisions are typically very conservative. Look at the new Audi TT. It's on a brand new platform but looks very much like version 2 with slightly sharper front and rear details. Where the Germans seem to have it over Jag(at least in the pictures) is the interior dashboard styling. Audi's dashes are well design and screwed together but have not really changed all that much. However it looks more upmarket than the Jag's. Ditto for BMW. Mercedes really played smart. They basically redesigned the dashboard from an S class to fit into the C Class. Result is that when you buy a C Class you don't feel like you've bought the bottom of the barrel. Very smart move. Jag, I think is going after the Ford Mondeo/Fusion crowd. There is a definite similarity in the dashboard architecture. perhaps the Jag has more buttons and slightly more bright work. Other than that they look remarkably similar.
