Toyota Working On 300 HP Turbocharged All Wheel Drive GT86?

Not too long ago, an interesting Toyota GT86 prototype was spied testing on the Nurburgring and now it has emerged that the Japanese marque could be planning a turbocharged GT86 variant to top out the model range.

According to 4WheelsNews, the new Toyota GT86 variant will utilise a 2.5-litre turbocharged flat-four engine from Subaru rather than the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-pot currently used. This new powertrain should pump out 300 hp and come mated with a paddle shift equipped eight-speed automatic transmission.

As if that wasn’t enough, there’s a suggestion that this potent GT86 variant could adopt all-wheel drive in favour of the popular rear-wheel drive setup currently used.

The GT86BRZFRS desperately need more power and a better suspension. This can't come fast enough.

Sounds like Toyota is trying to recreate the magic of the Diamond-Star Twins.

I've had my BRZ for 1 1/2 years and don't understand what Matt thinks is wrong with the suspension. It handles great. Not nearly as tail happy as the FRS but tail happy is fun too. The tires are weak but they were picked for a reason, so you could slide it a little without going mach 2. If you want more stick it's an easy fix. Same with the tail happy thing. The set up is very changable. There is nothing wrong with the geometry in my opinion. Cant argue with the HP deficit but for the street it isn't bad. More torque is what it really needs.
