Infiniti Steals BMW Executive To Lead Them Out Of The Dark Ages
Nissan Motor Corp. has poached BMW veteran Roland Krueger to head its leaderless Infiniti luxury unit, lending a touch of German flair to a brand struggling to break out of the second tier.

Krueger, 48, steps into a brand twice stung by recent defections, first by brand President Johan de Nysschen’s departure in July, then by the exit of its chairman, Andy Palmer, last week.

Infiniti’s new German boss will be based at the brand’s global headquarters in Hong Kong and report to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. Nissan said today, the company is still discussing when he will start.

Infiniti is certainly NOT in the "dark ages." They're just challenged in finding a styling language that appeals to a much larger number of people.

Just like Acura fans re the beak front, I'll defend Infiniti cuz I don't think theirs is a design problem. You can look different as long as you have a strategy and both Infiniti and parent Nissan are shooting in all directions.

I think Infiniti has no idea who they want to be and maybe Krueger can provide them with that solid direction. At first, they seemed to want to be the Japanese BMW to Lexus' Japanese Mercedes. Then they seemed to want to be the Japanese Audi. Now they want to be Infiniti, but their focus is all over the place: entry-level hatchback, $100k M3 fighter, LWB Q70 vs a true flagship, promise of a true entry-level sedan but no evidenced plans for such. It's really a bit baffling.

Rat's leaving a sink ship. I be surprised if Infiniti is in business at the end of the decade.

I doubt very much they will fail. If Volvo, KIA (before their last model make-over) and a couple of others hung around before they got their act together. Even Volvo has shown some promise with some of their latest concept vehicles.

It's a big auto market and each of these companies will go through the ups and downs.

The guy is an idiot for wanting to go to Inifiniti. Infiniti chooses losers like Johan de Nutsack and then fires them a few months later for being losers. If Infiniti hires you, you're a loser. BMW must be thrilled. The fact that Cadillac hired that crap filled diaper known as Johan de Nutsack to run the brand is SCARY.

Suggesting INFINITI in stuck the "dark ages" is idiotic. INFINITI sales are still with parent company NISSAN doing even better. The brand is more recognizable than ever and it's partnership with MBENZ will continue to push the brand.

Not to burst your bubble, but their sales aren't as strong as they appear. They started the year strong(er) than last due to the brand new Q50. But the sales of the Q50 have already leveled, and the G37 is tapering off quickly without being offset by any Q50 gains. Outside of the Q50, pretty much every other model is lagging behind last year's numbers. Last month, they were 23% behind the previous year, so by the end of the year, their annual totals may be even with last year, or behind, even with a new volume driver in the Q50.
