BTW, the Q7 is the best handling full size SUV, it grips the road and stops just as good as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. That is very good for a 7 passanger SUV. And with 25 mpg in combined driving, the TDI would be really nice.

Will, how so? Diesels are perfect for SUVs, they do even better in SUVs than in passanger cars. A giant SUV and 25 mpg combined (like 20 in the city and 30 on the highway) that is basically mid size sedan numbers.

Chewy basically said it. Diesels are PERFECT for SUV's. I hope this engine makes it over and changes the mind of a few Americans.

Will, your hatred for BMW is absolutely remarkable. It seems every comment you make has to have that name in it with a negative statement attached to it. It shows short sightedness, should I start crying about how the Q7 looks like an enlarged Infiniti FX, or should I say at certain angles it looks bloated, more like an enlarged wagon than an SUV, or even better lets talk a little about Lexus and how their designs look exactly like Toyotas, and how a few design and styling cues have been taken from BMW, I can even bash Mercs and Benz's as well as Audi. Benz's, their cars all look absolutely alike, only difference seems to be in size, audi's the same. Yet I can praise each car company for their designs, Audi's look better finished, outside and inside than their competitors, Benz looks more elegant and visually composed, Lexus look nice and more youthful except for the LS, BMW's look for agressive with daring designs which push the envelope like it or not. There is no one perfect car or car company at that, as many faults as u can find in BMW, i can find in other car companies. Why? Because it is a subjective issue Silly Willy, however performance is 99% objective but thats another post

maybe u don't understand my point, look at your first post on this log. U called the Q7 quite handsome, why did u have to compare it to BMW, everyone else was talking about the engine but you decided to once again drag BMW into a fight you started. You can get tired of it all you want, but as long as you keep a negative attitude toward the car companies that you dislike and proclaim it on this site, i will probably be on your case for it, sorry, i'm not sensitive towards BMW, yes they are my favorite car company, but I still acknowledge and give credit to other car companies for their great designs and tech contributions, give credit where it is due, u should try making it a habit "Silly Willy"

well for the simple fact that we were discussing a diesel engine and its performance figures, and then u show up with your an irrelevant comment which alerts us as to where your mind usually is and that seems to be on the offensive against BMW.

Is it true that Audi is developing a diesel/electric hybrid? Anybody have more info. on this engine?

I heard something about the diesel/electric hybdrid. There is no information, but it would make more sense than a gasoline/hybrid. Audi might go that way.

audis are not rebagded vws (reskinned and totally rengineered yes) and lexi are not rebagded toyotas (reskinned and totally re engineered, yes)

One word about diesel: TORQUE, TORQUE, TORQUE, TORQUE, TORQUE!
In 2008 the Q7 3.0 TDI will be coming to the States.
That same engine will be found on the A6 and possibly on the A4 as well.
Just think of 230hp and 370 torque on an A4!!
The A8 4.2TDI is a Twin Turbo V8 Diesel with 335hp and torque above 550 with a 0-60 in 5.8 sec!
Look at the Audi R10 Race car; you can be sure that a variation of that engine will be found on an Audi in the near future.

Modern diesels are quiet, efficient and use less fuel. Here in the UK fuel is expensive so we want as much mpg as we can get. This is why diesels are popular, especialy in some suv's because performance in now not so far behind petrol cars, if at all. Diesels hold their price better, especialy discos, X5's. The new Audi looks interesting, but it also looks huge!
