How Much Horsepower Is Too Much? Hellcat Dynoed At Up To 825 HP!
Our nameless insider tells us that the 707 HP number is not just conservative, but he's not really sure where it came from in the first place. It's a nice palindromic number with some sevens bookending it, so I wouldn't be surprised if the marketing team just picked it. Other dyno tests seem to peg the output around 720 HP, and our source confirms that, at the wheels, the average buyer should likely expect something in the 630 HP range. Which should be plenty

Anything is theoretically possible with a 6.2 liter engine if you don't have to meet emissions or anything else but hasn't this already been tested and its performance is in the ballpark of what is to be expected with the 707 power rating.

I don't spend any time on a track. I don't rally. I don't race. I don't seek bragging rights or street cred.

I find a mid-90's BMW 3 series with about 190 hp to be more than ample for brisk acceleration, spinning the wheels, and other kinds of silliness, so I'm not seeking a lot more horsepower than that.

So is it "too much"? Nah. Just not what I'm looking for. But for track folks, racers, rallyers, or those who seek swagger from specs, 825 hp might not be enough.

I'm not sure that even the track guys want that much horse power - - - especially with that chassis. Most track guys would take better brakes, better suspension, better tires and a lighter weight body.

Makes a great drag racer though!

I guess I'm just anti-Chrysler but I'm not impressed by this SRT, Hellcat stuff. It doesn't matter how much power an engine puts out, it's how the chassis, the suspension will be able to handle the power. Last time I checked, Chrysler cars are not known for their handling. I don't see them dominating NASCAR, let alone WRC or Formula 1. So excuse me but I'll venture to guess by the time the car is ready for the public and the press gets a hold of one, it will gets its 1st month of fame and after that, it'll get placed behind all other super-sedans as comparisons get done.

The Challenger is a terrible car at the track and more power will only make it more unruly.

Horsepower is torque over a length of time. I love torque, but if it falls flat after a the peak, then the horsepower is lower.
