Doom For The A3 Sedan? Mercedes Boosts CLA Production To Try And Meet Demand

Between the Super Bowl ad and a price tag of $29,990 to start, the Mercedes-Benz CLA has been in short supply ever since it was introduced. But help is on the way.

Mercedes has found a way to increase production of the entry-level luxury compact sedan, Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Mercedes' parent Daimler, tells Automotive News. More of them will be coming to the USA, but he wouldn't say how many.

With a supply of CLAs that has fallen below 10 days — in the auto world, that means basically it's sold out — Zetsche added that Mercedes could have sold twice as many of them.

Ooooooh the power of that 3 pointed star, not to mention the allure of one of the most distinctive designs under 35k whether you love it or hate it.

Well, I can't say that I'm surprised. The CLA is a stylish and attainable entry-point to one of the most prestigious brands in the world.

The A3 is formidable. For people who have an aversion to Mercedes blingy, styled-on-acid looks, the Audi is a very tasteful alternative.

We are seeing people choosing loaded A3s instead of the A4. Audi has a problem. It's not with the A3.

Audi is going to launch a new A4 in 2015 which will likely be longer to accommodate for the new A3 entry-level sedan. Just like how Mercedes-Benz launched a bigger C-class to increase the difference between the C and the CLA.

Are they going to purge the A4 of its reliablity/durability issues?

I sell Mercedes in Houston and ordered 3 for customers yesterday. Collision prevention assist plus, which stops your car autonomously rather than rear-ending someone, is standard on the 2015 model. This is the hottest car ie: demand>supply I have ever seen in my 15yrs of selling high end cars.

Runamukk, just curious. How many are being ordered with 4Matic? yes, I know you're in TX, but from a driving perspective, want to understand if folks are turned off by the FWD. I'll be doing my Mercedes test drives in the next day or so.

Amazing, but the same story is being told everywhere. Now my question is how is the GLA doing? What type of interesting are you seeing there and when does it officially go on sale?

I have not seen even 1 ordered with AWD yet.
