Is This Really Meant By Lexus' "The Pursuit of Perfection"

Is This Really Meant By Lexus'
On a recent broadcast of the AutoNsider, we discussed how 2014 has seen unprecedented growth in the luxury auto market. Brands such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Cadillac and Lexus are among the most desirable and dependable. There are as many theories about the success of the luxury auto market as there are luxury brands, but one brand consistently finds itself on the top of such lists as Consumers Reports, Forbes, Edmunds, US News, as well as most other trusted automotive review sites; Lexus.

I said it before and I will again, Lexus is one of the most persistent automakers in the industry. While they are not my cup of tea, I gotta give it to them.

They've been around for less than 3 decades and dominated the U.S market for nearly half that time and it took a Tsunami to knock them off their sales throne.

A few years later they have the Germans looking over their shoulder again.

A lot of people sneered at the Lexus ISF and the Cadillac CTSV for not being BMWs and quite frankly I preferred both of them to the Germans.

The ISF was a hoot to drive. It was an American muscle car done by the Japanese. It was brilliantly fun.

I'll take Lexus quality and reliability over the dismal record of the Germans.

I drove my buddy's IS-F today, and it was a complete blast to drive. The steering felt a little disconnected, but that beast could seriously GO! When I got into my car to drive it home, it felt like a total slug in comparison.

One of the few times Car4Life gets it right....or that I agree. I've never been attracted to any Lexus car, but...their tenacity, attention to detail and their desire to give the customer what they want, is really unparalleled. I hear Customer Svc is superb as well. They're all Toyota's which isn't bad and even though they're super reliable appliances there is an ethic behind what they do...its impressive. Someday maybe a Lexus...........?

Wow, you know your doing something right when one of your certified haters @W124E320 agrees...while A Lexus will likely never make my short list as id rather opt for their cheaper alternative, a Toyota W/ Leather...I do appreciate them keeping my favorite German brands on their toes

Where Lexus easily has over Mercedes and BMW is in dealership/service center experience. Heads and tails above, easily. Audi is extremely close but they don't pamper quite as much.

On that note, I just test drove the GS350 F-Sport and the IS350 F-Sport. I Honestly wasn't expecting much due to my previous experience with Lexus, but all I have to say is "WOW". These are two phenomenal cars to drive, especially the IS350 Sport. Both beat my current car (2012 Audi S5) on almost every front. Yes, the interior of the IS is cramped for a sedan in this class, and the GS is and felt bigger, but I was seriously impressed with both with regard to their driving dynamics and ride.
The letdowns: styling on both, Audi's MMI is superior in many regards, some interior bits felt cheap, the IS350 had an annoying buzzing sound and feeling through the seats that even the sales guy didn't know what it was, and the IS info screen felt like it was a mile away (kind of odd in a cramped-feeling interior) and the resolution wasn't great.
However, both of those cars are at the top of my shopping list despite some of those letdowns.

Lexus bread and butter is the ES and RX. Both are derived from the Toyota Camry platform, engine, etc. Although the Camry body changes, for years the basic components have not. There is your "reliability." It is what it is.

Nothing wrong with that, but dislike Lexus VP Templin remarking that Lexus autos are "handcrafted" and they will not sell a car under 30K. They tried with HS. You are the expert MD, what percentage of Lexus sold are ES/RX and what content is Toyota. And I already know Porsche/Audi/Acura etc. all do it so do not reply about that.

The Lexus brand is well known for its great customer service and reliability. It is one of the most popular luxury car brands in the US, and Lexus cars are sold across as many as 70 countries throughout the world.
