Finally Everyone Agrees With What We Have Been Saying All Along: NHTSA Has No Clue About What It Is Doing!
In a rare display of consensus here, Republicans, Democrats and safety advocates are coming to the conclusion that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is in dire need of reform -- even if they can't convince the agency of that.

Seven months after General Motors' ignition-switch issue erupted into a full-blown safety crisis -- triggering several investigations of the company along with sweeping internal changes to safety protocols and personnel -- NHTSA is taking its turn in the hot seat, facing tough questions about its past and its ability to effectively police auto safety.

This was evident when they tried to go after Tesla for a couple puny battery fires alit in wrecked vehicles, while at the same time GM was covering up deaths and major defects.

Uh, Tesla did have a problem, which is why they retrofitted cars with armor under the body and a debris dam.

Everybody knows this. The point is, Tesla's battery enclosure vulnerability dealt with merely 40,000 cars and anywhere NEAR as serious as the ignition problems in GM vehicles, which involved MILLIONS of cars and HUMAN LIVES!

These are much more serious problems, which the NHTSA suspiciously ignored! or swept under the rug to go after a company which might in the future rise to be GM's chief competitor. Oh, how convenient for GM

Umm.... this is the Government we're talking about... they do nothing right, efficiently or inexpensively. The only thing they do well is the Military,(when politicians leave the fighting to the experts) which is why the Constitution leaves most of the "governing" to the states. A small Fed Govt and a more powerful state... the original design...

Actually, the need for a strong federal government was clear even to George Washington, who fought hard to establish a stronger presidency and federal government. We need to be united in order to deal with international threats, so your comments about our founders are inaccurate.

Yeah, you're right, New York, California, Illinois, Mass... even Virginia cant pick a decent Governor. Except they haven't gotten our grandchildren $18T in Debt, and $8T in the last 6 yrs... yeah we should trust the Fed Gubment to do more!

You're right, except with the borders wide open, Americans will no longer get to pick any one, as the losers and new citizens will negate your votes. Saw an article today that Turkey "Locked down their border"... hmmm....maybe we should ask them how? Or provide them with airplanes to fly the refugees all over their country, and plant them in districts the current govt cant win. You know they could give those refugees amnesty so they can vote, then the current govt won't have to worry about pesky producers who disapprove of their "fundamental" restructuring of the nation, that they didn't vote for, but is being forced upon them.

No any adult citizen really believe anything the federal governemt says or does?

Remember the famous most frightening 10 word statement of Ronald Regan...
"I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."

For those too young to remember, Reagan was mocking the government intrusion into our lives with that statement, not suggesting that the government was actually there to help. He was by far the best president with in my life time.
I agree with killing a lot of government agencies that we don't need and let the states handle things like education.

I was born in Vietnam and escaped communism when I was 7. The way communism were sold to our people was they would take from those who have too much and give to us who had little. Does that sound familiar? In the end, only those few with power got the most while most stayed poor. As the older generation are dying, the younger generation have embraced western culture including free market. Of course in my opinion, it will still take about a decade or two to get where Vietnam can have a free market. As I watch this great country slowly move to more socialistic culture, I am sadden to see so many people who don't see it and try to prevent it. Most of the immigrants I asked what they would like like in their government, most say less government, more freedom, and free market.

There are too many agencies with very little accountability. One example is my brother in law works for the FAA in the IT department. He has been there about a year. He says the newer and less senior employees come in and do most of the work while the senior employees come in and sleep, play games, watch tv, or surf the internet. Only when they have visitors from Washington do the senior employees actually work.

Our government is way too big. Our debt will one day put us at the mercy of other countries. Too many of our people are dependent on government because it is easier to get a free handout than to go work for minimum wage. I see a lot of the younger generations here who thinks they are owed something. I see powers that were given to the states move to a central government. Regardless if you are Republicans, Democrats, Independents, or Libertarians, I hope you research and really look at where we are headed.
