Ferrari Recalls 458 For Being Able To Lock Someone In The Trunk?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has just announced one of the weirdest recalls ever, affecting the Ferrari 458. According to the feds, owners of the Italian supercar will have to take their rides back to the dealers because a person can get trapped in the trunk.

“In the event an individual is trapped in the trunk and the latch system does not release the trunk lid, it increases the risk of personal injury or possibly death”, the NHTSA explains.

Come on Ferrari, you know the rules. Even the Lotus Elise from 2005 had an emergency release in the rear trunk - - - a trunk barely large enough to hold a Chihuahua. Makes the Ferrari 458 trunk look outright spacious.

Hmmmm...Italian car...locking people in the trunk....makes me teary-eyed for the Sopranos on HBO and James Gandolfini whose life was cut short, way too soon.

I forget - is "009" autospies New Jersey correspondent or is that "00R"?

Come on, putting someone in there with more weight over the front wheels would mess up weight distribution and handling...

Hehe...I think that would be one recall I'd ignore. Never know when that may come in handy.
