STUD OR DUD? Has Infiniti One Upped The Panamera With The New Q80?

Infiniti has revealed further details of a four-seat fastback concept that previews a future rival to the Porsche Panamera. The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration will be revealed in full at the Paris motor show next month.

The concept – plans for which were exclusively revealed by Autocar a year ago – is described as a "low-slung, ingeniously aggressive four-passenger fastback" and previews a production car which will sit at the very top of Infiniti's range.

Infiniti's long-held plans to take on luxury rivals like Porsche with a larger sports saloon are well known. It's previously been mooted that such a car could come to market in 2017 or 2018.

The Panamera is still safe, based on styling alone.

Wrong, tun like the Panemera, Infiniti's sedan does not look like an overgrown sports car or 911.

Given Nissan/Infiniti's success with models like the Z, Maxima, GTR, and G35/37, I could see this thing doing very well. The trouble with Infiniti is they lack consistency, if they can follow up this model with hot models on the lower end/entry level, they may be on to something.

I swear, Infiniti is the most misguided brand of them all. At least Acura doesn't change their naming scheme. Infiniti actually has a capable product, but their marketing is on some other planet.

They took a class beginning, and ground breaking car, the FX, and renamed it something else. Who the fck is at the helm of this company?

I think this looks worlds better than the stretched 911 look of the Panamera.

Acura didn't change their naming scheme? Legend, Vigor, or Integra don't mean anything to you???

Acura, just like Lexus renamed their cars for the NA market...even Gm does this with Holden and Opel products.

Infiniti rebadged their most recognizable vehicles just like Ford did when they rebadged the Ford 500 toTaurus....same car, different name with seemingly no logic behind the move.

That looks great, awesome flowing lines but the challenge is preserving all of that to production.

Not sure why Infiniti is perceived as 'misguided'. I don't understand why so many people on the Internet are getting their panties in a twist over naming conventions. Grow up already.

It looks like Infiniti has some great plans. It's too soon to judge competition from an illustration of a concept at this point though.

For the Europe worshippers, that name changing thing is something that they want to talk about all the time.

Just like how they still talk about Nissan voiding the warranty regarding launch control stuff, when it is no longer true. The Europe worshippers would do anything to defend their Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, Mercedes and such European masters.

The rendering looks good but exactly how much of the details get carried over is the question. Otherwise the overall design is ascetically pleasing.

The Porsche Panamera was the first but the drama and cutting edge style is missing now. There is ample opportunity for Infinity Q80 Inspiration to pick up the mantle of leadership and style.
MB's CLS also is sweating over the Q80 attractive style. Cadillac and BMW can both go back to sleep.

So much hyperbole here. Cute but laughable. This drawing needs to be ripped up because its the sketch of a fiive year old. But even if they do try again, the final product will be alien and reptilian and trying WAY too hard, just like every other special-edition nisan. The design and performance will in no way threaten Porsche or any other German.

Youre right about only one thing, though; BMW can indeed go back to sleep, and sleep soundly, knowing they arent in the midst of a crisis and circling the drain headed toward extinction, like this retarded brand with zero identity.

Sorry, at the rate that Infiniti/Nissan is going, this car may be a stylistic and/or performance foil for the Panamera, but that's all it will be. It won't challenge or take away its sales. Look at the GT-R. It can perform rings around its comparably-priced Porsche counterparts, yet its sold 859 units this year compared to 7000 units that the 911 has sold.

The Infiniti "kink" is hideous. Porsche is threatened IN NO WAY. Nissan's best car is the GTR and driving one at the track makes you realize just how much the software is making it be great instead of it being a great chassis like the Panamera is.

People who drive cars at the limit do not like the GTR because it's like driving a MacBook whereas the 911 is a car. Both give high performance but you want a car to be a car. Nissan is clueless in that regard.

Once again, Matt nails it. I've long said the Japanese cars are appliances. I've not driven either the GTR or the Panamera but I've driven countless German, American and Japanese cars. The Japanese cars have a hollowness to them, no character, no passion and visually they're just soul-less. I agree the Infiniti "kink" is absolutely hideous, like a 5th grader drew it, it inspires nothing, and is only a visual gimmick. I also think the Panamera is hideous and bloated, but from everything I've read, its a Porsche. Wonder why this new Q is aimed at Porsche... when they cant seem to build a car that competes properly with BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac or Audi? Seems like they've adopted a shot gun approach.... a strategy like that is destined to fail.

The beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Looks nice to me, an I also likes American, European or Japanese cars, and I know how all drives cause I already have cars of each of them and all have virtues and defects. Best Engines: Germany, Best Electronics, Japan, Best designs, Italy, Best interiors (luxury cars) England, Best Muscular Engines: Americans..

This is for w208, Lexus did not rebadge their cars for other markets. The exception was the Harrier SUV platform but still a different car. the Lexus brand was never sold in Japan until around 2 years ago. More Lexus haters without the facts.
