The Beginning Of The End? Lotus Says No 2015 Models For US Market

Boutique British sports car maker Lotus may be due for a pit stop in the U.S.

The only Lotus model sold in the U.S., the Evora, is being dropped for the 2015 model year because it no longer meets federal crash standards.

In a statement to Automotive News, Lotus said it remains committed to the North American market. “We will not be producing a 2015 model year Evora, therefore there will be limited availability of the 2014 model year car over the next few months,” the statement said.

The Evora currently is selling under a temporary exemption for safety non-compliance. They will be compliant by 2016 and continue to sell the Evora as a 2016 model.

I wish they would federalize the latest Exige - - - a true sports car by every measure.

Don't worry. TVR is coming back and TVR has always been infinitely more fun than Lotus. Lotus builds track cars that in EVERY way are terrible as daily drivers. They have the mix wrong. A Lotus "Miata", "GT86", and "MR2" are the products and price range Lotus should be building.

The trouble with Lotus is that they are irrelevant. For the same price there are cars that will kill them at the track.
