Critics Question Wisdom Of Cadillac Move To New York City - Are They Right?

General Motors Co.'s top executives on Tuesday defended the decision to open a new headquarters office for its Cadillac brand in New York City, while some outside the company questioned why Cadillac needs to shift to a New York address and the message it sends to Detroit.

Mark Reuss, head of global product development, purchasing and supply chain for GM, said he supports Cadillac's move of marketing and sales employees and the headquarters for the brand from Detroit to the Soho neighborhood in Manhattan.

They need to move to NTC. There is a need to distance themselves from the failed social experiment that is Detroit.

In the movie Mrs. Doubtfire, the husband suggests a vacation due to the wife's stress, the wife says their marriage problems will be there waiting for them when they come back and she straight-forward shoots for divorce

Now who gives a shit where they move, the car is still a glorified Buick and it's a subjective product of GM, not even a real solely produced car, wherever they move their fucked up reputation, shitty design direction, and all their problems will be there waiting for them.

Just have the guts of the guy that was or still running Lincoln who admitted that Lincoln was never a real luxury brand.

just leave it the way it is, I don't think they can do any better than that.

You use a lot of swearing words. I always wondered, how old are you?

Seriously, you are so uniformed. There is not a Buick that shares a platform with a Cadillac with only the possible exception of maybe the XTS. The CTS and ATS have their very own platform that isn't shared with any GM product. Please have your facts straight before you mouth off. Nite back to your originally scheduled program.

And in another equally idiotic move, the new boss is apparently changing the lineup's names, the same way he did at nissan. Autoblog is reporting that the cars, starting with the new flagship, will all be CT and a number (6, in the case of the flagship). Time will tell if this is as big a disaster for government motors as it was for nissan...

I cannot see ANY good reason why they would move at all
It certainly will not add autonomy - they are still based on the GM product and platforms that are used throughout their lines.
It will add COST - NYC is far more expensive than Detroit.

They should keep the money and spend it on product - which is where they need the help.

Moving to NYC will TOTALLY make them the equal of Mercedes overnight! This is why GM needed to hire Johan de Clusterblam to run the brand.

Hey buddy, I'm 39 years old. I don't think there women on this site so swearing should be less of a problem. but, without a sarcasm, if it offends you? I'll stop.

It's just that GM's dumb moves are so dumb that swearing is the only way to describe it

I think the comment that it is a "glorified Buick" is true. I don't know if moving to NYC will help Cadillac or not. However GM needs to do something to elevate Cadillac away from Buick. The "Elmirage" styling concept is a good place to start. Further they need to establish what their identity is. Is it a Euro sedan to compete with BMW and Mercedes or is it uniquely American but with Euro inspired handling. Interior and exterior styling is what has to change. More wood and more chrome, creating a sense of elegance that current Cadillac's simply do not have. Perhaps going back to the 50's for inspiration at least would not be such a bad thing. The " Me Too Euro Clone" concept apparently is not working. For if you want a Euro Clone why not get the real thing. Cadillac stands for "American Luxury". That's the direction it needs to go in.

Yes I said it was a glorified Buick and I forgot to mention that Buick itself is a normal car in its own right, it is what it is, an American brand of family sedan and they have their market share and they are on a good track for now.

But when it comes to Cadillac, why are they trying to boost that car's name and image. Germans updated their technology long ago and they are now producing cars with very efficient ways and that helps them to keep their prices in a normal levels and the market share goes to them. Let's be honest, if it wasn't for the prices being high, everyone would want to drive a German car.

Back in the days when Cadillac was affordable compare to Germans and that's why they had success, but the unions didn't let them update and had to raise the prices while the quality went down on steady bases and they lost the market.

Cadillac's flagship should be priced 50-60K in order for them to sell some if not people will keep their German brands
