Audi S6 and S8 priced for U.S. consumption
Audi has announced that the 2007 S6 sedan will start at $72,000 in the U.S., while the 2007 S8 (Euro-spec model shown) will begin at $92,000. Don't forget the $700 destination charge that's not included in the price, as well as the $1,300 gas-guzzler tax for the S6 and $1,700 for the S8. Still, for now these two vehicles stand as the least expensive way to mash the throttle of the Lamborghini Gallardo's V10, which has been detuned to 435 hp in the S6 and 450 hp in the S8. With that kind of motivation, the S6 can charge to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and the larger S8 can reach the same mark in a more impressive 4.9 seconds. Neither are quite as fast as the Gallardo, which can reach 60 mph in a hair under four seconds, but can the raging baby bull carry four people in comfort? We think not.

it's not that detuned because it now has FSI and has more Torque than the Lambo.
The S6 is much better looking that the 5 series (I do like the 5 series a lot, but the S6 is much prettier)

Heck go with one of the tuners and recoup the hp from tuning pretty quick.

Audi needs to do a long wheelbase version of the S8; I think the buyer of this car (who is looking for cachet & bragging rights to the Lambo engine, etc rather than regular use of the Lambo performance) would find the LWB the more practical choice.

In the markets where this car will find success (NYC, LA, SF, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Chicago) people will spent most of their driving time stuck in traffic or being driven.

Most of the AMG s-classes in NYC are driven by people's drivers (most A8-L's also seem to be driven by drivers) during the day.

GORGEOUS. That color looks awesome on it too. I don't like plain silver on Audi's, doesn't make them striking enough IMO. But that greyish color is the color I'd select for my Audi's.

nybimmer: Going with a long Wheel base would negate the meaning of the car. It would not be as nimble as the SWB and would have extra weight.
people who buy the SWB (at least in Europe) drive the car; the LWB, they are driven in it.
I see your point, but i think going with the Short Wheel Base is better suited for the performance that Audi is looking for.

PlanoA4: No worries man...was just messing with ya!

Agreed, the grey is nice.

nybimmer:
Well, that's what Jaguar did, too. The XJR is only availible in short wheelbase. They do have a luxo model in long wheelbase, the Super V8.

Well logical, let me make a comment to set your ass straight once and for all,

When we ar talking about prestige it would be correct to look at the brand's flagship car. The one with the fattest price, the most luxury features, amenities and the showcase of technology.

For Mercedes-Benz this would be the S600 sedan. For BMW the 760Li and for Audi the A8L W12.

Funny thing is the brand that is supposedly not prestigious (Audi) sells more of its flagship luxury sedan (the A8L 6.0 W12) than Mercedes-Benz sells S600s or BMW sells 760Lis world-wide.

Logical maybe you won't be caught dead in a $100K+ Audi, but the real message here is more people are caught "dead" in Audi's flagship and most expensive vehicle than they are in the comparative mosst expensive luxury sedan of Mercedes-Benz (the S600) or BMW (760Li)

Pretty soon almost a 1,000,000 will be caught dead in Audi's. Of course logical, your viewpoint is that these 1,000,000 people are all morons and should have spent their money on a BMW.

Well fortunately Audi has traits that BMW lacks (such as a finer interior) and BMW has things that Audi's lack (better driving dynamics) except the RS4.

You are too funny. The engine comes from Lamborghini (better than anything that BMW has) Ther RS6 will come out and crush the M5, but that is for later.

Logical I do have proof. An identically priced Audi A8L 4.2 has HIGHER lease rates than the equally priced 750Li.

I don't care who sells the car for what logical, just like you don't care about the msrp listed by Audi or BMW for the A8L 6.0 W12 and 760Li respectively.

I know your going to claim what the car ACTUALLY sells for.

I'm going to claim the msrp listed on Audi's website for the A8L 6.0 W12 is HIGHER than the msrp listed on BMW's website for the 760Li.

Logical, are you lacking a brain? Apparently so because Mercedes never claimed that they sell more S600s than BMW sells 760Lis or Audi sells A8L 6.0 W12s.

Mercedes claimed they sell the most flagship luxury sedans worldwide. Which is true if you count the entire LINE of s-class from S350 to S550 and S63 AMG.

If we look strictly at S600 sales (not including any lower models such as the S350, S550 or higher models such as the S63 AMG) and we look at BMW sales of JUST the 760Li (again not the 750i, 750Li, 760i or Alpina) and we look at JUST the A8L 6.0 W12 sales (again not the A8 4.2 A8L 4.2 or any diesel versions) The Audi A8L W12 outsells both the Mercedes S600 and BMW 760Li.

If Audi sells more of their most expensive luxury flagship sedan (and car for that matter) than BMW sells of their most expensive flagship luxury sedan (and car) and Mercedes sells of their equivalent luxury flagship....then Audi is most certainly a prestige competitor.

Remember in this price category the CHEAPEST car comes in with a sticker of $118, and change (that being the 760Li). The Audi A8L 6.0 W12 is next most expensive with a bit over $119,000 as msrp and the Mercedes is most expensive at a whopping $130,000.

So obviously, there are plenty of rich people with definite prestige in terms of their income and positions, titles etc... that buy Audis and that in and of itself along with Audi's history makes it a prestigious mark comparable to BMW and Mercedes-Benz when looked at worldwide.

I'm waiting for your assanine response so I can grill you once again......Logic Lacker

Well I fight with him because he purposely ignores the facts I present and I ignore the sales figures he presents. That way it will never be an ending battle between us.

We both skew the facts to support our arguement.

Pretty soon I'll run him off this site

Audi only sells 350 to 400 A8's per month, in the U.S. Audi only sold 21,500 world wide last year compared to 50,000 + 7 series, Mercedes has sold 61,500 worldwide year to date. I don't know where Germanut gets his facts from, but these are there facts, based on the 2005 Audi annual company report, and the BMW 05 annual report, Logical thanks for your accurate facts.

Logical stop making comments because every comment you make will be disproven.

For example, your comment that the RS4 has better driving dynamics than a Jetta. Maybe the Jetta you are referring to is the BMW M3 because based on total driving dynamics such as acceleration, slalom speed, 0-60 and 1/4 mile, along with Nurburgring the RS4 wins....

I know you will say the RS4 is a cheap POS because it is not a BMW M3. Although the RS4 costs $66K versus the M3's 55K you will say Audi owners settled for the RS4 because they can't afford the M3. Although I've proven you wrong on this point also.

You say Audi is for those who can't afford the BMW time and time again. I say look at the RS4 price, previous RS6 price and A8L 6.0 W12 price and you will be proven wrong. You can also look at the R8 (w/ V10) price which is going to be more than a BMW M6.

Of course you will say the R8 is a sloppy, nose-heavy, dynamically lacking car when we all know it will have better acceleration from 0-60 or from 0-100 and in the 1/4 mile, better braking, better handling (slalom), better track time and better overall performance with the V10 version when compared to anything BMW has produced as a mass production car in the history of their company.

Oh yeah, price wise with the V10 we won't be talking about just a few hundred dollars more than the 760Li. The V10 will be around $125K which is $7K more than the 760Li.

If you want to say there will be no V10 I will say there will be because Lambo just increased the HP on the Gallardo to 600. Gee I wonder why.....

You skew the facts to say that Mercedes said they sell more versions of their S600 than BMW does of their 760Li's and Audi does of their A8L 6.0 W12. When in reality, Mercedes sells the most S-classes in GENERAL.

You will ignore msrp and say look at actual sale price. I will ignore sale price and look at msrp.

Larry you are wrong. You are counting TOTAL S-classes which are the S550, S63 AMG etc.. and TOTAL 7-series 750i, 750Li, 760i, 760Li.

I'm counting ONLY S600s, 760Lis and A8L 6.0 W12.

Thank you GermanNut for your accurate facts

Logical getting worried about the nose-heavy (even though it's mid-engined) and has a rear Quattro bias, slow (even though its faster anything BMW has ever produced), dynamically inferior (although it will post better numbers in any increment of acceleration, 1/4 mile times, slalom, skidpad and braking along with track than anything BMW has ever produced) and cheap POS (even though in V10 form it will be more expensive than BMW's fastest car (the M6) by about $30K.

Logical, I'm waiting for your attack on the R8 and how its dynamically inferior or cheaper than a comparative BMW.

If you don't respond, I will take this as your acceptance of appreciation of the R8 and if you do, get ready to get eaten alive yet again.

GermanNutGermanNut - 9/7/2006 10:46:24 PM

Will, numbers wise the M6 isn't even close to a Gallardo. The Gallardo beats the M6 in every category.

Well, Well logical. I still haven't seen the facts about Mercedes. By you merely stating that Mercedes said somethig is not what I am asking for. Logical you obviously didn't price out equivalently priced cars. Obviously if you price one car to be higher the lease rates will most likely be higher. I'm talking about the exact price with a price different of say $50 in total between the A8L 4.2 and 745/750Li.

I said the M6 wasn't close to the Gallardo because in every performance category it fails against the Lambo, which i should when looking at price and specs of each.

Everyone else who can afford the BMW will buy it? Tell that to the prospective buyers of the BMW and Mercedes-Benz flagship 760Li and S600 models. They can afford to buy either car (the Audi, BMW and MB), but more peopel buy the flagship Audi A8L 6.0 W12 over the CHEAPER 760Li and drag happy S600.

Again logical find me the facts.....

how many time are you going to ask me this question? We (my family) has had a 325Ci, 330i w/ M performance package, X5 3.0i, X5 4.8is and a 750Li. I have an Audi A4 and will be getting a 335i one year from now.

The BMW lineage is clearly apparent and I will continue the tradition.

You may find it weird that I support Audi when we drive so many BMWs. I want to be living proof that someone does not have to appreciate only one brand and despise its competitors the way you do.

When I get a BMW will I stop my support for Audi? Most certainly not. I believe Audi makes BMW better and BMW makes Audi better. The competition is so apparents in everything from the i-Drive, MMI, to the horsepower, to the interiors to the price. In every facet from interior to exterior from speed to price to sales, the two companies compete.

I will find you the proof momentarily.

In the USA the W12 is an order only car. The rest of the world it outsells the MB S600 and 760. The W12 is more of a Limo when this is a sports car (a long sports car 200in)

I found that posting here on Autospies.

"In fact, the A8 outsells its primary competitors in the European market."

So for Europe it holds true as well

"As for second tier, Audi A8 outsells both the 7-Series and the S-Class in the 8-cylinder and 12-cylinder super classes combined."

That was also from Autospies from Caltrans and it mentions only 8-cyclinder and 12-cylinder models. Again NOT the S350 or 735

hahaha you bought an ugly (so true), un user friendly (even truer) and un reliable (the truest) car!

(my local bmw specailist is full of 745s with electrical problems, engine management and transmission problems mainly)

you care that much about your image?

no, i won't buy the clearly better car (the a8), i'll buy the bmw, because then my friends won't say "hah, your car is a few seconds slower round the nurburgring!" and because i feel that audis are as good as bmws because they are owned by the 5th largest car company in the world...

you wouldn't be cought dead in an audi? pity, i feel someone will be stuffing you in the trunk of one soon.
