Who Will Be The First To Offer A Serious Competitor To The GLA45 AMG?
The powerful new Mercedes GLA45 AMG will have no serious competition when it hits the streets. The all-new 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG will compete in the fast-growing compact SUV segment. Mercedes will compete against the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 but the GLA45 AMG features the world's most powerful series-produced four-cylinder engine with 355 horsepower.

There isn’t anyone who can compete head-to head with the new GLA from AMG.

BMW already has a vehicle in the X1 3.5i that is at 300 hp & 300 lbs of torque with 0 to 60 in about 5.2 seconds .

What are you referring to?

The BMW is a competitor of sorts. It is 500 lbs. heavier and 3 inches taller, but about the same width and length. It is almost half a second slower to 60. Not really giving the GLA a challenge from that perspective.

No.. X1 is 6 cylinder, al GLAs are 4 cylinders, also are a bit smaller than the X1.

Audi also has the RS Q3. While not available in the U.S., it is still a GLA45 AMG competitor.

Doesn't matter about cylinders. Ever watch the LMP1 LeMans series?

It'll be a couple of years, probably, until anyone really ventures to compete with it. The high-performance compact SUV segment hasn't really been explored in the US so the market will have to determine if the category is even viable. The X1 is probably the closest, but not direct, competitor.

The Dodge Caliber SRT4 and Chevy HHR SS turbo go back over 5 years ago for performance CUVs.

Well, not sure I'd classify either as "high performance" since the Caliber had 285 hp and the HHR had 260 hp, compared to the GLA45's 355hp. And, though some may classify the lower-stanced GLA45 as a hot hatch, the Caliber was indeed officially a hatchback with minimal comparative ground clearance, and the HHR was officially a station wagon/bread box. But, I see where you're coming from with those examples.
