Volkswagen Falls Further Behind In 2014: Sales Down 18.6% In September

Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) today reported 25,996 units delivered in September.

The Jetta, with a refreshed model hitting showrooms in late September, sold 8,980 units. The refreshed Jetta offers a suite of driver assistance features and recently was named a Top Safety Pick + vehicle by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Footage from the IIHS crash test can be found here. New optional driver assistance features include Blind Spot Monitor, plus Rear Traffic Alert and Forward Collision Warning.

The all-new, seventh generation Golf continues its strong sales pace and earning accolades through the month of September. September sales included 1,887 Golf units and 1,600 of the Golf GTIs. Popular Mechanics recently called the Golf TSI “the best car you can buy for $20, 000,” and Car and Driver named the Golf GTI the winner in a comparison test with the Subaru Impreza WRX.

“The accolades keep rolling in for the all-new 2015 Golf and Golf GTI and we’re thrilled to see the excitement make its way into showrooms as well,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America.

The Chattanooga-built Passat totaled 7,280 units delivered for the month. In September, the Passat TDI, the only Clean Diesel in the midsize sedan segment, delivered 1,720 sales or 23.6 percent of the total Passat volume.

The Tiguan and Touareg delivered 1,674 and 646 units respectively.

Their sales strategy is idiotic, I went to purchase a 2015 2-door GTI and the dealer couldn't even tell me when it would be out. It's like they don't even care.
So I went to the BMW and MB dealers next door to see what 2014 inventory they were getting rid off at steep discounts. I came out with a new 2014 MB C350 Coupe;) Now I need to get rid of my 2009 LS460 with 148K miles, anyone interested?

@ Benzes I plan to ask $13K OBO, the car's color is Obsidian with Black interior, the car is in really good condition. I am currently in a project down (for Florida Power and Light) in Wellington, FL. The car is currently sitting in Wally Park at JAX airport.
If you are really interested, I can give you more info but not in this board. Thank you,

I've said it before. They don't care about the U.S. market anymore.
Cars continue to be unreliable and a generation behind their competitors. The "hey look at us we are also German" is not working anymore. People know better these days.

boring products, horrid reliability, component failures...VW's lack of quality control is biting them in the ass in the USA.

Freefall sales decline to continue; nothing new on the horizon. What happened to the 2012 / 2013 hype about long term growth? VWs portfolio management is dreadful: no new products on the horizon and no substantial refreshes (like the '15 Jetta - tragic they even attempt to call that a refresh). Glad they spent their energy on the beetle and showing us dune versions of it.

@autoponion VW has a full-on revolt happening at the dealer level in the USA. Some dealers, like us, refuse to stock the Touareg because they simply don't sell and count as a debt against the business for accounting purposes. We refused the Eos as well. We've turned away shipments of Passats and Jettas because we have too many on the lot that aren't selling. VW pushes cars out to dealers and then punishes us if we don't sell them.

The Beetle is NOT where these idiotic German managers spend their energy. It's the Bugatti, where VW loses $6,000,000 on each one sold:

@Mdarringer Are dealers trying to get rid of Touaregs that are on the lot? I'm looking to get into one if I can get it at a good price.

And they've talked about the Phaeton coming back since the day it left (2016) but now report it'll come back as a 2019? The 800,000 USA sales goal they used to talk is more than laughable.

Obvious correction, the Phaeton left in 2006.
