And there you have it folks, why you must build out your entire line up instead of relying on 1-2 models. Lexus went from selling over 31,000 units a month or 2 ago to barely selling 21k for September.

Still a respectable figure and miles ahead of Audi, however that momentum took a significant blow

You cannot compare month to month. Each month has its own set of dynamics. That's why we compare year to year. And Lexus is up an extraordinary amount year to year.

Agreed, @thetruth01. Lexus had its typical summer events that culminated with a phenomenal sales month last month. Now that things are "normalized" they're still showing an improvement over last year. We just have to wait to see what the brands pull out for year-end/holiday sales.

No ones discounting the YTD comparison, however something is to be said that whenever the RX and ES have a less than stellar month of sales...the entire brand loses a significant amount of momentum in doing so.

Now if you'd like to go back a year, you'd see the RX is down slightly from this time last yr, while the ES sold less than 1,000 units more.

To further put that into context, nearly every model was up compared to last year with the exception of the LS and LX, however it was not enough to offset the flat performance of the ES and RX, therefore making a less than great month for Lexus.

Comparatively speaking to last year, they are doing better as you'd expect one too, but then again they had a weak September last year, so you better bet execs are also monitoring month to month as well otherwise you'd fine yourself in Audi's position, celebrating PHENOMENAL growth every month because your sales last year were so piss poor in the U.S

Are u serious? Audi proves my point. September is a weak month all around. Audi is way down in September from August's numbers. How would u like to spin that?

It doesn't require spin...keep it in context Audi ALWAYS leans on YTD, because their sales were soooo pitiful a year ago, and yes they are down from August numbers just like Lexus, my original point, come on buddy keep up!

@truth01, you are correct in your YTD/monthly context. Lexus demonstrated this same exact trend last year. In 2013, they sold 29k cars in August, then dropped to 19k in September, a 10k drop. This year, 31k in August, 21k in September, another 10k drop. Based on their "summer events" initiatives, this seems to be a common trend for them, at least for 2 consecutive years. In 2011 and 2012, the same time frame reflected a 4k drop from August to September. So, not as drastic, but still a similar trend.

The NX will bolster these sales very soon as well as the RC. The dealership I spoke with said the interest in the NX is tremendous though it may steal sales away from the RX.

Toyota Execs will watch RX sales like a hawk when the NX comes out because the #1 concern of the RX soccer mom fan club is that it's grown a little too big...the NX addresses that, hopefully not at the expense of the RX

What does Toyota have to sell but boring, old looking cars and trucks.
