Mercedes-Benz Rocks On In September With A 10.6% Increase In Sales

Mercedes-Benz today reported the best September sales in its history with 27,315 units sold across its passenger car and light truck lineups, increasing 10.6% from the 24,697 vehicles sold in September 2013. Sprinter sales totaled 2,208 for the month, combining with 748 retails at smart (up 19.7%) to bring total September volumes at Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) to 30,271, an increase of 10.2%. Year-to-date sales for Mercedes-Benz reached 233,211*, up 8.4%. Adding volumes of 17,785 for Sprinter and 8,080 for smart, MBUSA achieved a year-to-date grand total of 259,076.

“With three record sales quarters under our belt, we’re racing toward another banner year in step with the strong momentum of the market,” said Stephen Cannon, president and CEO of MBUSA. “From gateway models like our all-new GLA compact SUV to the new flagship S-Class Coupe, the breadth of our product portfolio will keep us at the top of our game.”

September sales for the Mercedes-Benz brand were led by the C-, E- and M-Class model lines. The C-Class, which entered a new generation for the 2015 model year, took the lead with 6,285 units, followed by the E-Class with sales of 4,883. The best-selling Mercedes-Benz SUV, the M-Class, rounded out the top three at 3,460, gaining 8.8% from the same month last year. At the high end, the CLS-Class four-door coupe delivered a 21.4% monthly sales increase with 1,100 units, while the flagship S-Class continued to show robust momentum at 1,909, up 393.3%.

Taken as a whole, sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars totaled 151,954 through the first three quarters of 2014, an increase of 9.9% compared to the 138,282 vehicles sold during the same period in 2013. On the SUV side, sales climbed 5.8% to 81,257 from 76,774 units year-to-date in 2013. High-end models accounted for 11.7% of the brand’s total year-to-date sales volume, thanks in no small part to a 121.8% increase for the S-Class at 16,915.

Retails for Mercedes-Benz AMG high-performance models totaled 717, up 6.2%, with year-to-date sales increasing 56.7% from the same period last year to 7,941. Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC diesel models delivered a September volume of 754, while year-to-date sales hit 11,017.

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) vehicles recorded sales of 8,648 vehicles in September, up 30.1% from the 6,649 units sold during the same month last year. On a year-to-date basis, 88,352 units were sold, an increase of 21.2% from 72,890 vehicles a year ago.

The CLA outsells the A3 Sedan but not by much. The Audi Q3, however, outsells the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The Mercedes CLA has not even seen the boosted inventory yet for the U.S and still manages to outsells the A3...pitiful

The C, E, and S class outsell the A4, A6, and A8 by 2-4x as much...destroying the Audi lineup...

All that's lest is the Q3...and it's a sad day when a luxury car maker has to rely on an entry level sport ute...

Meanwhile Benz took the crown for September and is on their way to snatching the U.S crown for 2014...

I don't believe the GLA is that readily available for customer deliveries. I know the largest Benz dealership here only has a GLA for test drive, whereas the Audi dealership has Q3s for delivery.

Same with C-Class, only test drives, non for sales.

Not true, both the GLA and C are out and ready for delivery. C went on sale at the end of August and the GLA just arrived at dealers last week. BOTH are on sale and ready to be driven away. What do you think those 991 GLAs were for on the sales report?

For the love of god. I was talking about the specific dealership, which is the largest Mercedes dealership in my Metro area, probably in this state. Calm your britches.

And you're still WRONG. Every dealership in America has the GLA and C NOW ready for Delivery.

And you're being such an ass, why? I explained what this specific dealership told me. Go tell him he was WRONG.

You're just incredibly stupid I see. Do you believe everything someone tells you or do you try to use your brains to see if it is true or not? The cars are out and being delivered at all dealers, especially the C-Class. The GLA also. You're just dumb as hell I see.

Dude, seriously. You're taking this wayyy too seriously. My original comment didn't say that it wasn't available anywhere. I stated it wasn't as readily available as it appeared. There's a difference. Now, get that pole out of your ass and stop acting like a 13-year old having a temper tantrum.
Oh, and yes, I believe it when I am inquiring about the possible purchase of a car, and, being a salesman, that is his reply. Considering he's trying to earn commissions, it wouldn't make sense for him to lie to me about it, does it? Can your brain handle that?

This coming from the idiot still going on about it? You're just not that bright. I get it. Fact is you just don't know what you're talking about. You're the one with the pole up your arse because it is obviously touching your brain. If the dealer is out of stock then try another one. Posting that cars aren't available for sale for another 2-3 months just dumb and incorrect. Can your brain handle that? Man you're slow a hell.

Well, clearly since 991 sold already. But my statement was implying it was not globally readily available. Glad you sold one.

These aren't GLOBAL sales so what does it matter? We're talking about the U.S.

I have to chuckle whenever I see sales figure for S class, relative to other mfrs. Perennial class leader and in fact, it defined and epitomizes this segment. Looks like MB should be able to maintain sales momentum with CLA availability in Q4 and then the C for 2015. Don't care about the SUV as I hate that segment, even if it's a MB SUV.

what else is new with Benz? got their shit slowly together and they are kicking ass.

Now GLA and CLA need 300 and 350 engine choices,
The new C-class needs that magical C250 with 35-36K starting price
.... and they will have a great years ahead
For next few years they need better designed ML or whatever the new name is going to be changed to, GLK also needs to be designed better than Peter Pheifer's Bangle inspired uglyness
The next E-class needs to be nicely designed, they can't afford to come up with an ugly one

Too bad Mercedes-Benz realized on a global level they were always going to be in 3rd place behind BMW and Audi if they didn't drop their point of entry and create an entry-level CLA and GLA.

The reliance on the S-class, SL and E-class to drive global sales growth was never going to work and Mercedes-Benz knew it.

I love how everyone on here is underestimating the future success of Audi. Audi's lineup is outdated, its new products (TT) are excellent performers with best-in class interiors and the design is going to become more aggressive.

The writing is on the wall.

You state that like it's a bad thing, Nuttie. What about the reverse? Too bad Audi realized that the only way they would take the top spot was by focusing on the lower-end of the segment since they couldn't compete at the higher-end.

I chuckle too, wondering how something that godawful hideous inside and out manages to sell so well. Then I smack my forehead and remember benz buyers have NEVER had taste or class, theyre all about showing off for their equally ignorant neighbors, clients and golf buddies.

Took a ride in a new one belonging to a family member and came away completely unimpressed and underwhelmed. I told him he should have saved 40k and bought the better looking K900 or the FAR better driving A8 or 750.
