PARIS MOTOR SHOW: The BEST Part About The All-New Volvo XC90? Check Out The INSIDE!
For Volvo, the 2014 Paris Motor Show may be the start of something completely new. This may be Volvo's opportunity to actually break through to a bigger customer base than its loyal, niche audience.

That's because the all-new XC90's interior is pretty nice. Nicer than what you'd find in the new BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz M-Class, at least.

Although I am not in the city of lights myself, I have to say that in this particular specification I am digging where Volvo is taking the all-new flagship sport-utility vehicle. Seating for seven, hand-stitched leather, a large infotainment screen and even a large TFT instrument cluster.

What's there not to like?

Well, let us know!

Not bad though perhaps not as nice looking as in some of the Volvo press shots.

Not really feeling it. It looks nice, but it also looks a bit cold and sterile at the same time. Would have to see in person, I guess.

The design of the interior reminds me of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not bad, but not great. Not a fan of the color combination, either. Maybe seeing the quality of the materials IRL would make a difference.

The quality of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is definitely not there for the interior. I just recently test drove one. Fit and finish is sub par. I have no idea who's touting it as a premium. Volvo's interior has always have nice fit and finish. I'm willing to bet it feels a lot more premium than the JGC.

Do a fair comparison. Price wise this is in the range of the Jeep GC Summit not the Laredo. Summit interior uses furniture grade "buttery smooth" leather where Volvo like many Euro manufactures uses rough cheaper grades of cowhide. Electronics in the Summit are way ahead of the Euros.

So, is this the production interior or still a concept? Because that strip of leather-wrapped whatever that's to the left of the gear shift is tacky as hell.

You do realize that strip meets the console lid cover, and in the picture the lid is open, making it look like it abruptly stops, right?!? This is a production example.

As for leather....Volvo uses two grades, a standard leather (that has proven to be excpetionally high quality, (go check out a used XC60 or XC90 and se how it holds up), and then a higher grade leather for some models can be upgraded to. That higher grade is absolutely premium, far far better than any Jeep product could ever afford to use. A Volvo S60 R back in the day received it's leather from the Bentley leather supplier. Volvo has been well known for extremely well put together interiors as of late....the XC90 I have no doubts will be the leader of material fit and quality for the time being.
