GM Recalls 524,000 Vehicles In 71st Recall Of 2014 - Hood Latch And Suspension Failures Take Honors
General Motors Co. said Friday it is recalling 524,000 vehicles in two new recall campaigns — including 290,000 U.S. SUVs for loose nuts that have been linked to three crashes and two injuries.

On Monday, GM said it was recalling 120,000 2010-15 Cadillac SRX SUVs in China and Canada for suspension issues, but wouldn’t say how many vehicles were affected in the United States. GM said Friday the recall include 290,107 2010-15 Cadillac SRX and 2011-12 Saab 9-4X SUVs in the United States to make sure rear toe link adjuster bolts are properly tightened.

GM said loose nuts could result in a loose joint and worn threads that could cause the toe adjuster link to separate. Dealers will inspect for the condition and, if necessary, will remove them and install a new link assembly. Unsold vehicles are being checked for proper torquing before being sold. GM is aware of three crashes and two injuries as result of this condition.

71 recalls so far? That's almost 8 a month, or almost 2 a week. If these numbers are accurate, I'd say there is something systemically wrong with the way GM designs and builds their vehicles, and/or sources their parts.

Well, GM designs their cars like any American companies do, just design it like trash and make money.

The Americans do not care about establishing brands nor culture, so all they care about is making junk.

This is practically why the Americans can never make a single brand that can match the European brands in many ways.

The only thing the Americans got would be Apple and McDonald's.

When you compare actual recall rates of the manufacturers - compared to the total of actual cars sold - GM - even with its record years - actually ranks well compared to most other major manufacturers. NONE of its recalls this year place in the top ten of all time - as well.

GM's recall rate over the last 30 years is far better than Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, BMW, and Volkswagon. In addition - Volkswagon, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, and Volvo actually have MORE recalls than cars produced in that time. A rate 50% higher than GM.

This is according to an article published in Car and Driver

If GM is Junk - then the other cars must be worse

Interesting logic. Did you ever think of the fact that GM is NOT recalling as many cars as they "should" be doing?

Oh, I guess not.

Actually - I think they are currently recalling MORE cars now - and all manufacturers are doing the same - To be viewed on the SAFE side.

(And your claim that of it being a "Fact" that they are NOT recalling cars they should be is YOURS to prove - I see no "facts" you have presented to support that)

Since it is NHTSA that ultimately investigates and orders these things - it is unlikely that MAJOR defects can get by without being recalled.

As an example - a number of manufacturers have had to recall ignition switches - not just GM but also Jeeps, Chryslers, Honda, Mercedes - and even Harley Davidson - for the detent not being strong enough to hold back a huge set of keys - the fix is often a stronger spring in the mechanism - and it is safe to drive the car simply by using the ignition key alone. While it might be nice to think that any manufacturer places much higher quality emphasis on basic parts like these - in the actual development of the car - I doubt the ignition switch in ANY car was given HIGH priority.

My point was that ALL manufacturers design to reduce cost - and all have had problems and recalls - and some have had recalls at rates much higher than GM. And based on actual statistics - the European manufacturers - based on their recalls - are not superior in that regard.

Oh - while you are at it - COMPARING cars at similar price levels (No - MB to Chevy stuff) - what ENTRY LEVEL compact car would you prefer in comparison to the Ford Focus or Chevy Cruze - A Renault - or a FIAT?
