Porsche Abandons 718 Entry-Level Roadster
After thinking about it long and hard, Porsche has abandoned the idea of building an entry-level roadster.

"You won't see anything lower than the current Boxster model," said Detlev von Platen, CEO of Porsche Cars North America. "We had many discussions about this in the group, and the decision was made that the time is not right."

Porsche considered a Boxster-based mid-engine roadster named 718, insiders have said. It was aimed to be shorter, lighter and less expensive than the Boxster.

So to recap, you're OK with Porsche making SUVs but not OK with them making sports cars?

I'm just sitting back for the news of when they cancel the Boxster/Cayman in favor of a couple more CUV's.

If they can move 5 more CUV's a month than sports cars, they will do it. The 911 will move to the $150K bracket so it serves a pure halo car and they won't have to inconvenience the dealers too much with them.

as someone who loves porsche but cant seem to get into one ( no good deals, like ever ) i think its a smart move.
as car guys, we all know the cayman and boxster are great sports cars, but people who know nothing about cars laugh at boxsters all the time like " what a crap porsche" because they think its a 40k car... they dont realize after options its nearly impossible to get a boxster for less than 55-60k which is not a cheap car at all.
if this car started at 40k but goes back up to 60 with options it would just be crazy again..
