VIDEO: Has Godzilla Lost The Luster? BMW M6 Gran Coupe vs Nissan GT-R Drag Race
The hype the Nissan GT-R got when it was originally launched was fully deserved. Back then, the Japanese offered performance usually reserved for supercars at prices that simply defied common sense. Today things are a bit different as most of the pack started catching up.

Over the year, the Nissan received various upgrades that were meant to make it even more track capable and the Nismo version is probably the epitome of them all. However, unfortunately, the pricing also went up and people started waking up.

Oh look! A rolling-start drag race from an obviously BMW-centric website. How surprising.

Because not all races in real life start for a full stop

WTF when you say "races in real life" are you talking about Le Mans or something? Last I heard there are laws about "races in real life" so this comparison is actually NOT applicable to "real life" at all. smh

LOL, well take it as you may.

The problem is and probably always will be, the Japanese in general can not keep up with the relentless improvements from the Germans. While they might pick a category to excel in at first, they are typically is over run by the Germans in a short time. You see this historically with Lexus (LFA), Acura (NSX), and now Nissan (GT-R)

However to give credit where credit is due. Nissan has been delaying the inevitable with continual improvements over the life of the GT-R. It is a far better and far less fragile car today than when it first debuted.

Unfortunately this version of the GT-R’s goose is cooked until the next iteration.

Well, for what it's worth, for all that magical German engineering prowess you're touting over the Japanese, neither BMW, Audi, or Mercedes have a car in their portfolio that would beat a GT-R on a track, and you have to pay a lot more for a Porsche that can. But with that said, I'd still take the Porsche (or the BMW or the Audi or the Benz), and sales show that most consumers feel the same way. The GT-R creeping from $60k to $100k over the last few years has severely curbed its appeal.

@fourtyfour

Interesting you compare a BMW crash test to a GT-R. So far the GT-R has never been tested by either IIHS or NTHSA so your comment is a bit pointless.

Wasn't the Nismo version supposed to do 0-60 in 2 secs? Isn't this the nismo version losing to a 991 Turbo S?

What I do not like about the current GT-R is price. I'm afraid this thing might go over 120~130k when the next gen model comes out.

I mean hell, why can't GT-R just stay at below 80k.

Well, there are people like Agent009, who see the European brands as "gods" of all luxury and performance (I guess it is understandable still).

But truly, people must understand. There is no other country that can make reliable products like the Japanese do.

Seiko watches = Very reliable
Japanese automobiles = Known for reliability

And Japan is the country that brought you Ninja and Samurai. The Japanese car lovers may always be jealous of the super high performance luxury cars from Germany, Italy and Britain (And Swiss watches), but you must know Nissan still made a great car aka GT-R.

First, how long did it take BMW to achieve this after the GT-R was out? Second, is this the latest version of the GT-R? Because obviously this is the latest M6. Third, lets take them to the track and see what the outcome is? Isn't this what all the "Porchephiles" say when a 911 gets roasted in drag races? "But my car handles better? Personally, I think the GT-R is the best bang for the buck and yes I do have a German car (MB C350 Coupe) and a Japanese (LS 460), so no bias here.

Correction - - - the GT-R was the best bang for the buck. My money is now on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 for that title - - - both on the track and on the drag strip.

Poor GT-R. It lost his crown to the faster Porsche Turbo S and now to the BMW 6. How embarrassing!

So how long was the race... why not from the start and not all the way to the highest speed. Looks like this run was done at the sweet spot for the BMW power range.

The GT-R would destroy the M6 if this were done from a standing start.
Also, the GT-R's aero is the majority of the hinderance in this race, as Godzilla produces much more downforce at speed than the BMW.
